Photos of my totaled 2001 Boxster S

Well, as promised, here are the pix from the accident. Both my son and I suffered concussions and whiplash. Thankfully, we are both OK, although I must admit that 50 and maybe not as flexible as my 16 year old son has made the recovery a bit longer for me.

I am trying to find out where it went for salvage so if anyone wants parts off it, they can try to arrange to purchase them.

FYI, the motor has the IMS upgrade from LN Engineering / FlatSix Innovations, new clutch, Flywheel, spark plug tubes, X-50 oil pan upgrade.

It has factory sports seats that were not damaged.

Let me know if you are interested in any of the parts and I will try to find out the location (my guess is San Antonio, TX).

Glad to hear you and your son didn't have more severe injuries.

Were you in a convoy with the 987 & the Cayman?

Not too much to the story (although the back story could have made this more of an ordeal...).

We were at Boxstoberfest and on our way back to Fburg to relax after a great day of driving the back roads. The convoy was at a stop light and since I was playing sweeps I was the last one in line.

The gal in the truck was distracted and did not stop in time. You can see the results.
She had the bare minimum insurance, so it did not even cover my car...which sucks.

But we are OK and that is what really matters. The silver lining....I am getting a 2006 Cayman S (Silver with red interior, my favorite combo): CPO, new motor, Nav, sports seats, sports Chrono, a bunch of other misc options.

Going up to Omaha to pick it up this week. I will post pix!

Adam at Woodhouse has been awesome to work with. Can't wait to drive it home.
Booked several business meetings along the way so company paid for flight up, hotel in KC and meals. I just have to pay gas.

Glad the car did its job at that point and kept the two of you in one piece, though it's still sad to see it totaled like that.

Enjoy the new vehicle, sounds like one hell of an upgrade.

One idiot takes out two Boxes? Prolly texting like that TV commercial.

I join those who noted that at least you and your son were okay. Good luck with everything.

That really sucks. I am glad you and your son are ok. I worry about getting rear ended since my car can stop a lot faster than the average vehicle. Sorry to be morbid and/or prying but I am curious about what your heads hit to give the concussions. Back of the seats? It doesn't look like the air bags deployed so maybe you hit dash / steering wheel? Why didn't they deploy? It looks like you hit the car in front of you quite hard.

We hit the back of the seat twice.
Not sure why the airbags did not deploy. If you look at the impact area, it is at the top of the bumper, into the front trunk. I wonder if not enough of the sensors went off to trigger the airbags. But I do not know...we wondered the same thing.

Sorry this happened Rob

I guess I missed your first post about the accident. I was the leader in the clockwise group behind you and when we came up on the site of the incident I think we were all in shock. I know I was. We came up the hill and saw all the emergency vehicles but had no idea it was part of our group until we were on top of the scene. oh my. When we got there, it looked like things were under control, cops and emergency vehicles already there. You guys were all standing around the cars so we assumed everyone was ok. It could have been much much worse.

I think you were at dinner Sat night but I missed getting to talk to you. I'm so sorry this happened. This is the first major incident we've had. The good news is that neither you or your son were seriously injured. (AND that you were completely not at fault...whew) The car sacrificed itself for you and that's what it was supposed to do. But it is odd that the airbags didn't deploy.

Enjoy your new Cayman!

Hope to see you back next year.

rob correct me if i'm wrong but:

texas' current minimum liability insurance is 25/50/25
- $25k per person maximum for an injury as a result of your fault in an accident
- $50k maximum per accident for all people injured
- $25k maximum per accident for damage to property

so if you hit someone the most the ins. co. is liable for is $25k per person up to $50k for all people combined and up to $25k in damages to all property.

seeing as how she hit two boxsters, that $25k could have run out quite quick.

technically i believe you can go after her assets to get the rest of the $, which is something i'm sure your insurance considered, assuming you filed against your insurance as well for uninsured/underinsured.

the most important thing, as others have already said is that everyone is okay. cars are expendable.
