it shifts (except for 1st which is way before) when it just touches the redline. it just won't let you hurt it. and yes it's quite a bit happier. just remind yourself it's a german car, and they light it rough.

as for fuel consumption, i get anywhere from 17-24 MPG on average, or on average 280 miles on a full tank in mixed-use driving.
