New Skirts

Hi, Installed new skirts, paint does not match 100% but close enough IMO.

What do you guys think?

Sorry...You need a repaint. These actually add bulk to the rocker panel, and that added to the off-color, make them stand out too much, rather than blend in like they belong there.

I like them!
They are subtle enough to show only for those who know Boxsters.

I like the skirts, makes the car look lower. Without them and the rockers look unfinished. Good job. I found mine on EBay, already painted for $180.

Side skirts are a great addition to our vehicles, well done! Now what side skirts do you have comparable to the poster?

Agreed, side skirts are definitely a must-have item for our cars. Mine are the MKII GT3 style skirts.

(on a side note, which version of the IPD plenum are you running to fit the 986? I don't recall if the RSS guys said the 986 could use the 987box/cayman 3.4 plenum or the 996 3.4/3.6 plenum?)

Franco -
The side skirts look great! I added the same ones to my Boxster last spring, and I thought it was a huge upgrade.

Thank you! Could you by chance send me a few photographs of your vehicle via PM?

I am running the 3.4L Boxster/Cayman intake plenum.

HI,

I never liked the way the rocker panels looked on my car and these skirts make it look much more finished and clean.

Porshe gave the Boxster a timeless shape but messed up on the rockers.

Thanks Guys for all your opinions.

The boxster looks a million times better with skirts of some sort on it. Mine are crap and not made well, but I can't imagine not having them on the car. They really transform it from a plain-Jane look to something far more stylish or aggressive.

I like your set. Very nice! The pix don't really show me the color being off.

The color looks fine. Me, I would add some bold stripes from the nose to the tail and paint the skirts to match.

how much were the rockers?

did you just have them painted and install yourself or did you take it to a body shop and have them do it all?

rockers are on my "list" of things I want to do.... yours look good. It's almost impossible for me to tell the color is off... maybe in person you can see it more...but it m ay be one of those things that if you don't tell anyone they would n ever notice...

i have an OEM spoiler on my Acura RL daily driver. it came prepainted to match from the factory. to ME it looks like a perfect 100% paint match. someone else looked at it and told me they would tell it was off, but that guy was a body shop employee who has a fine tuned eye for colors... so bottom line - odds are no one will notice unless you tell them...

it looks great. rockers make the car look lower an dmore sporty/aggressive..

are they OEM or aftermarket generic units? poly or fiberglass or that poly/fiber blend stuff... durablend?

thanks.

Hi guys, thanks again for the positive comments.

I purchased the skirts on ebay, the material is fiberglass with gel coat finish not OEM.

The price for the skirts was $90.00 GBP and shipping $70.00 GBP.

I did the fitting, about 3 hours of sanding to match the rockers and installed them on the car before getting them painted at a body shop in my area, they ordered 3 variants of my car paint color and went with the closest match, scanning the paint was a nightmare.
Cost for painting $300.00 CDN.

Thanks Again

Franco

They do look great ! I'll be looking for a set for my 01 S.

Remember this (and this goes for everybody) always go to a body shop that mixes their own paint in house. That way, they are better able to tint your color to match, without making a bunch of trips back to the paint jobber.

And they will mix the smallest amount necessary to do the job whereas a paint store will mix in specific amounts ( 1/2 pint up to a gallon).

I like the skirts. I will be on the lookout for some red ones for my 97. If I need to buy a new set I will eventually do that. Looks nice!!
