986 newbe

I have owned 4 Porsches 3 928's and 1 944.
Now I want a Boxster probably an S.
I am open to any ideas...what should I be looking for or be looking out for.
I am one of those guys that can never seem to leave well enough alone, always looking for more h.p., better brakes, better handling etc.
Thank's
Rick

I've wanted a 928 for a long time, but I decided to skip it and go for a 2000 Boxster as my first Porsche. If you already had a 928 and are power hungry, then you may want to go with a Boxster S. The Boxster 2.7 is enough for my appetite right now, but if this was my 5th Porsche, then I may have been yearning for more. Anyway, welcome to the site!

When people risk their lives, shouldn't it be for something very important?
Well, it better be.
But what is so important about driving faster than anyone else?
Lots of people go through life doing things badly. Racing's important to men who do it well.
When you're racing, it's life. Anything that happens before or after is just waiting.

My advice is to buy the newest model you can possibly afford. Porsche continually upgraded the boxster throughout the years...particulary in 2000 and again in 2003. I can't say if you will be satisfied with the power of the boxster S, but you really can't get better braking or handling at any price.

Yeah, Stryke's car is very sweet indeed. GT3 bumper, sideskirts, Sport Techno's..etc etc...one of the nicest cars on here.

QuickRick:

If you're into fiddling with cars to modify them and get more HP out of them, the Boxster may not be a good choice for you. Mods are few and far between without spending a ton of money for just a few horses extra.

Read through the historical threads on exhausts, chips, intakes, engine swaps, etc. and you'll see what I mean. Sure, you can bolt on a 300 dollar intake, but then your MAF goes out and that's 650.00 bucks down the tube.

It's as if Porsche designed this car in such a way as not to give the physical room or electronic leeway to do any modifications inexpensively or easily.

The previous posts in this thread give good recommendations. Buy the newest S you can afford and enjoy it the way it is.

Yeah, I completely agree with Randall. The boxster is by no means a "tuner car." You will more than likely be very dissapointed with the HP returns relative to the money you spend. Porsche does it right straight from the factory so that's why buying the newest most powerful boxster would be your best bet. And the best part is you will have some factory warranty if your engine ever calls it quits.

I realize the 986S will never be the powerhouse like my mod. 928 S4Gt and I don't need a track car...just want a performance cab. and I cannot afford a 996T.T.
( my budget is around $30k)

2000 boxster S is what you need then. You may have to do a bit of searching to find a good example for 30k.

I think Stryke was selling his for $33K?
Thats about what I ended up paying for my 2000S after taxes and fees last NOvember. Did I mention it only had 10K miles
After I upgrade to Litronics, 18" wheels and aero kit ($4,000) I might as well have bought Stryke's Boxster!
