'98 Boxster ignition sw./starter issues

My '98 Boxster is having starting problems - turn the key, accessories come on but starter won't engage. Pull the key, try again, repeat a few times and finally it will start.

It has been doing this from time to time in the past, but usually pulling the key, turning it over and trying again fixed the problem. Starting yesterday, though, it's doing it every time and takes more and more attempts to start.

I have now noticed, however, that depressing the clutch a couple of times before trying again helps.

Ignition switch assembly was replaced by Porsche dealership 1 yr ago.

Any ideas what might be the cause of this issue, anyone?
