Radio shuts off

I was driving today and my cd that I was listening shuts off and I hear 4 or 5 beeps. I was unable to reboot my radio/cd player with the power button until I got home which still took a few presses. It came on again after an unorganized combination of turning ignition power off/on and pushing the power button on the radio. What does the 4 beeps mean?

Just a guess, sounds like it lost power long enough (loose connection) to be re requesting the code. The beeps are from entering the code.

I assume you're talking about the factory Becker. The exact same thing happened to mine. That kind of behavior with the beeps is Becker-speak for "I'm getting ready for the trash heap - soon."

For only $180 delivered from Crutchfield I got a JVC CD with built in HD Radio, +++, that sounds and operates far better than the Becker, even with the crap factory speakers. Lose the Becker, you won't be sorry.

I'll lose it when I get a little extra money coming in but for right now it will have to stay unless of course it dies on me. I will definitely consider your recommendation though.

More info on the year and model of unit would be helpful.

Check the condition of your battery with a load tester. My CDR-23 just went dead until I got home and shut down engine. Then it came back on with a few pushes.

Then my 6 year old battery began to slow crank the engine and finally died. Replaced battery and radio is now fine fine.

Sounds to me like the contacts are dirty and the unit thinks the front door is down (open.) Try taking a pencil eraser and a q-tip with alcohol on it and cleaning the contacts.
