Gurgling and Popping/MAF
I have been getting some gurgling and popping on startup when the engine is cold. Car runs great when warmed up and I am getting no CEL's. I cleaned the throttle body, the MAF sensor and I cannt find any vacuum leaks.
I plan on replacing the fuel filter and putting in new plugs (one year old) and coilpacks (original). Hopefully that will fix the problem, if not, I suspect it could be the MAF sensor (replaced about 30K ago).
I freaked when I called Suncoast to see what a MAF would cost, $477.00, they said they retail for close to 700.00. Thats nuts, is there a cheaper alternative for my MAF (996.606.124.00), thanks.

Thanks for the input. When I checked with ********************************e, they said they did not have the direct replacement for my MAF with my .124 part number, but an updated unit costing 225.00 that would require a reflash of the ECU. The folks at Sunset said they had the exact replacement (450.00) .124 that would not requrie a reflash...

I bought the exact same MAF from Sunset 3 years ago for $273.64. I too didn't want to use the newer (ending with 125 I believe) MAF because I didn't want to go to the dealer to get an ECU reflash.
Let us know if you have any luck finding it cheaper.
Thanks.....

They to said I may have to take my car to the dealer to reflash the ecu, they were not sure though ?Funny there the only ones that told me that ,the one maf I got from them was the same Bosch part # as the one in my car ,everybody on here just told me to unhook my battery for a few minutes after install ,they said I did not need to reflash ,that worked fine ,and I erased the check engine light with my actron scan tool ,now all is good runs much better

Vertex Auto to the rescue. I saw their ad in Excellence with pics of MAF's so I gave them a call. They had the 99660612400 MAF exact replacement for my 2000 base for 240.00 delivered. I just put it in, and the rough idle is gone. Car runs like a top . I continue to be impressed on how this little 2.7L can push you back into the seat in the first 3 gears....

Makes me wonder if your TTP intake is the cause for it to fail.

I was always concerned about that as well. As you have to oil the filter element and too much oil may bugger up the MAF. But, I have put on about 40K with the TTP intake and the same MAF. I have heard of MAF's failing with stock intakes in less than 40K.

Ed,
Thanks for the update. Nice to know I can get the 124 MAF if needed for a decent price!
