VW to kill Cayanne, Panamera in 2016

Wow. Never heard of a car being ax'ed just as it is being launched.

If that story is correct. Maybe VW should have waited a while (like 6 years) so as not to sway people away from purchasing one while it is for sale.

Geeze, that's 7 years down the road! Don't you all remember the annual rite of "the last of the 911" press stories throughout the 80s? The future was the 924, 968, 928. <cough>

And yet, I think that letting this out now is a good thing for the traditional Porsche customers. Look how many on this - and other - Porsche forums who have whined about being ignored at the dealerships because of (apparent) shift in support towards the Cayenne. And I haven't met anyone yet who's at all interested in a Panamera. <grin>

Sayonara. Will anyone care?

Actually, if the Boxster/Cayman went away, there probably still wouldn't be much customer noise. Porsche=911, that's the way it's been for 50+ years.

Basically Porsche was whoring themselves out to the public by making a SUV because that was in demand at the time. That kept them alive like what Boxster did in the 90s.

Now Panamera is being catered to the same people that bought SUVs but want something more liberal-friendly.

They can even axe the Boxster but the name has been ingrained and it's the best car in its class so it's harder for them to get rid of.

Well the pepper still sells considering the economy.

Not sure why VW would just throw away sales for no real reason. If they
believe that pepper sales will fall to the touareg then I think they have
mis-calculated.

I wouldn't mind if porsche was only sports car orientated. But not with current line up. They would need stop selling their sudle models such as boxsters, caymans, even low level carreras and add couple extreme super cars such as carrera GT. Other wise pulling cayenne and panamera would change anything but profit.
And c-mon Cayenne vs Toureg , who are they kidding! There is no way i would buy that, i had enough problems with 2 VW that ive owned. And have you noticed how similar window switches are between VW, Audi, Lamborghini, and even bugatti ill be so pissed if porsche gets them too.

My 2 Cents

I totally agree with the VW board. Porsche needs to get back to what Porsche does best.

Denying that their products have design flaws?

Part of me is a bit sad about that, the Cayenne isn't that bad when it comes to a luxury crossover and the Panamera's been getting good reviews despite the strange look of it. Though another part of me is glad that Porsche doesn't have to go sell out and slap their hood badge on something that isn't a 911/Boxster.

I'll be sad when the Cayenne goes. The vehicles that can tow your car to the track and don't ride like......well......a big truck on a day to day basis are few and far between. For those that fit the small niche that want something that want a sports sedan/light tow vehicle combo, the Cayenne will be very tough to replace.

I see dozens of them towing P-Cars to local PCA events these days.

Perhaps they did the whole 35 MPG calculation and figured it was lights out with a 5500 lb SUV in the mix???

:D
