Check engine light then smoke...

Ok need some opinins on this one but I'm hoping it's nothing too bad. I was drving and came to a red light look down at the dash and se th check engine light on. Solid and not blinking so I wasn't too worried. Drove about another mile and got to a buddies house so I decided to turn the car off to see if it'll go away. As soon as I turn off the engine and hear like a rush of air or liquid flowing. I'm like ok maybe ac compressor. I turn key to crank and wait for countdown and he oil levels is Dan to nothing. Get out of the far and check the oil level with the dipstick and it's ok. No coolant smell or white residue in the oil. Open the coolant tank still full and looking nice and orange. Get in the car and a puff large puff of smoke comes out. Turn it off and try again another large puff of smoke. No noise of metal rattling bust a u turn and still no prblem with the engine. Turn it off and try to start if again and puff page smoke with no rattling. Engine sounds fine. I'm thinking the AOS just took a crap and if it's done doesn't hold pressure in the oil system therefore showing the low oil level. No oil dump. Temperature is normal. What u guys think..
