What sort of hat do you wear?

What kind(s) of hat do you wear to:

1) keep warm during the winter with top down
2) maximum protection from the sun during the summer

I see people with baseball caps, but I think they provide very little protection in either case.

IceBox 02-24-2005 12:36 AM

I wear a ball-cap. Not crash-rated so i don't rely on it to give me protection :)

Jeannot 02-24-2005 12:54 AM

Baseball cap...and I try not to loose it :-)

QporscheQ 02-24-2005 05:02 AM

Make sure you turn your baseball caps around backwards, its better aerodynamics.

Pilot2519j 02-24-2005 05:56 AM

Hats

Baseball caps or my Indiana Jones Hat during the week in Manhattan.

Brucelee 02-24-2005 06:03 AM

Porsche BB cap, white or black depending on how hot it is.

I like the Indiana Jones idea!

If you turn your BB around backwards, the Porsche police are allowed to take your car away!

:)

The wife bought me this hat for Christmas... thought it was stupid because I'm an "all black hat" kind of guy in the car, seeing as it's triple black. But, the first time I used it I was sold.

I don't like the cream colored accents, but this hat is very thin (no head sweat on hot days) and has a bungee cord type of thing in the back so you can put it on and tighten it up good so it won't fly off your head while on the freeway.

I highly recommend it for all you fellow boxster owners!

I wear a helmet

Either a Porsche dealer's cap or my Tilley if it is going to be a long day of top down fun. The Tilley has a leash that keeps it on the head at Boxster highway speeds! :D

Here is the other hat I wear. The Indiana Jones type hat. I have one in brown and one in deep dark green. The other is a black baseball cap from Porsche

Automon 02-25-2005 04:48 AM

One of those leather ones? With goggles? Scarf?
No I wear a full face with a tinted shield and flames on the side I get a lot of looks

sooner 02-24-2006 11:27 PM

I wear a hat all the time and have the top down most of the time. My daily fedoras in town and a wool English driving cap in cold/cool weather on the highway, or BB cap when warmer. I haven't tried a cowboy hat yet.
Does the soft brim of the Tilly flop in the wind?
A helmet? Seriously?

blinkwatt 02-25-2006 02:25 AM

Im not so much of a hat fan but I do have a custom made black beenie that has "Boxster" across it.I dont find myself wearing hats too often because of how people in my age group wear them...backwards with the tags and stickers still on them....yes I know

Brucelee 02-25-2006 06:35 AM

I wear a ball cap. I always wear one with a logo of the car I am NOT driving, ie, when I drive the BMW, I wear a Porsche hat, etc.

I like looking confused!

Rail26 02-25-2006 08:04 AM

I wear my Apache Helmet...chicks and Darth Vader fans dig it.

Rail26.....I am your father!!!! [you need to supply your own sound effects]

I am not much of a hat fan...I have big ears...baseball caps just kinda accentuate the fact :( .

bigislandboxster 02-25-2006 01:02 PM

Hmmmm..

Why would you put a hat on when you're driving a car with the top down? Seems kind of errrrrr.......stupid? If you're worried about the sun, then why put the top down?

Unless you're driving for hours, I don't quite get it

70Sixter 02-25-2006 01:09 PM

I wear a ball cap my stock broker gave me when at speed with the top down or when the sun is in my face. I hate wind blowing my hair worse than I hate Hat Hair.

And yes, the bill is aimed down the road.

Perfectlap 02-25-2006 01:25 PM

Is it the 1 year anniversary of this thread's death? :p

Hat? you'll get HAT HEAD!!

for protection I have this helmet
http://www.racehelmet.com/bieffe/f1gp.jpg

But it looks kinda of funny driving thru Times Square!

wild1poet2 02-25-2006 02:26 PM

Black doo rag with wrap around wileyX's. Maybe the one with skulls and flames. :D

donv 02-25-2006 04:25 PM

Why would you wrap yourself in a car when you could go faster, corner better and get better gas mileage with a motorcycle in the same top down weather? If you want the totally in the open experience you can't beat a motorcycle... ;)

I think it is all just a little related to your situation. If you've got fair skin (esp. if more of that than hair) on your head you appreciate a little extra coverage from a hat. If you don't like flying at speed without a metal cage of safety around you, you take the Boxster instead of the motorcycle. In neither case do you stop appreciating the open sky and rush of wind.

And no, Sooner, the Tilley (T3) doesn't get all floppy unless I'm doing better than 120. Can't say enough about those hats - I lost my last one, finally gave up hope of finding it again and had to get another. The last had been to Hawaii, the Caribbean, Iceland, hiking, horseback riding, etc. Always performed great and kept me from being roasted from the sun.

Hi,

I was a Redhead as a Kid, Hair Darkened (then Grayed), but skin remained Fair into Adulthood, so for me a Hat is necessary Kit.

Fortunately, as Mrs. MNBoxster puts on Major Golf Tournaments for a Living (she's in Bruce's Neck of the Woods right now doing the Accenture Match Play Golf Championship in Carlsbad, CA), and her Corporate Sponsors Souvenir of Choice is a Logo'd Baseball Cap, so there's never any shortage or lack of Variety, we have Boxes of them here. The biggest problem is usually deciding which one of Hundreds to wear. Just a small sampling below...

And why do marathoners wear painters hats in the sun? Why do ball players and golfers wear hats? Why do bikers wear doo rags? And who just does short drives?

Riddle me this. ;)

SD987 02-26-2006 09:18 PM

MN Boxster:

You have some way-cool hats in that mix ! You/you're wife should consider ebaying some of those, a few are unique enough to get the bidding going.

Let me know if and when you do.

Ronzi 02-27-2006 08:29 AM

I usually go for a green ball cap with yellow lettering, to compliment the yellow car. The one I like best says "John Deere" on it.
I didn't know the man, but I like his hat.

MNBoxster 02-27-2006 09:35 AM

Hi,

I visited my Wife at the Presidents Cup last year which was held in Manassas, VA. While there, I was introduced to, and spent some time with Charlie Deane, Chief of Police for Prince William County. He gave me this hat which I wear quite a bit.

In the Boxster, it really discourages Street Racers (even though this is Mpls.), and people yield right-of-way to me more often when I'm wearing the Hat, than when not.

BTW, the Prince William County's most recent notable arrests included the DC Area Sniper and Larana Bobbit...

Happy Motoring!... Jim'99
