Rear Trunk Light

This may have been answered before, so forgive me if I am being repetitive...

I have a 2000 986S (6spd manual). I noticed the rear trunk light does not come on when trunk is open - front works fine! So, I pulled the light socket out to replace the bulb (thinking it's burned out bulb). To my surprise, the socket was not attached to a harness! It was merely covering a whole in the carpet. I pulled the carpet out, and could not find a loose socket anywhere.

So my questions: 1) did the rear trunk came with a functioning light for 2000s? If so, what should I be looking for behind the carpet to get this thing hooked up?

Thanks!

Yes, mine came with truck light

I have a 2000S and it has an operating trunk light. I just went out and looked at it and took some pics for you.
There is a two wire lead that comes out from under the fire wall, and connects to the light. It doesn't hook up to the harness anywhere inside the trunk that I can see. It just disappears under the fire wall. My guess is that someone had the panel off at sometime and didn't hook it back up, and it is still under there somewhere hiding from you. Happy hunting.

Thank you. I looked for the wire you mentioned and sure enough: it was tucked hidden (and loose) under the bottom trunk carpet (flat surface). I'd have never been able to find it unless I took all the carpet out. They must have forgotten to hook it up after the last detailing job at the dealership. Your pictures were perfect. Thank you so much!
