Hood / frunk closing force?
 

Most cars I've had, to close the hood you simply drop it from about a foot up.

My Boxster, even 2 feet is not consistently enough. I have to set it down, and use my body weight to get it to latch. Is that normal?

The rear trunk requires slightly less force, but it still doesn't latch on it's own.

I slowly lower my hood, till it clicks. I don't drop it.

After the "click", I use my palm on the Porsche crest, push down, to lock it down in place. This is how the dealership taught me at delivery.

And only if my hands are clean! :)

How much force are you applying?

Let me put it this way, I can feel the suspension compress while I'm closing mine. :)

How much do you weight, dude? Compressing the suspension! Are you using the "clear" and the "gel". Roger Clemens...Barry Bonds.

Yes, my nose will dip, slightly, from the force. Not the rear trunk, though, when closing the trunk.

I drop the hood from about a feet up, rest my full palm below the P badge, and slowly apply with force until I hear the click.

Or I spread my left & right thumb & index fingers across the bottom.

Trunk should just snap close with slightly more force than dropping it.

It's not meant to be slammed. Lower it, then push down on the crest to latch it.

Ekam is right. I used to push on the emblem until I read how direct pressure on it could cause the two mounting pins to break. Now I push below or to the sides of the emblem for the final latching.

rear trunk will close/lock if i just drop it from maybe a foot. no need to push anything.

the front trunk won't close unless you give it apush on the emblem/crest. I usually gently close it until it clicks,, then use myhand and push on the emblem to forced it shut.

If I wanted to lubricate the latch, what would I use? White lithium grease? If so, where can I buy that? I never seem to see it at auto parts stores. I only have the brown stuff.

I'm not sure if lithium grease is the right stuff. But you should be able to find it. Try home depot or Lowes near the gargage door pulleys and stuff. It comes in a slightly oversized tube (like toothpaste).Hit your garage door rollers while your at it.

Not sure why you need to lubricate the latch? Just keep it clean. Adding grease to it just attracts dirt. Use silicone spray if you have to I guess.

I've been told that pushing on the emblem causes it to become loose after a while. Has anyone experienced that problem?

Mine got a bit loose. I tightened it using a socket on the end of a screwdriver-type driver. Now I push just below the badge -- with a clean rag if my hands aren't clean.

The reason I wanted to lube it is that it has a metal-on-metal grinding feel to it. I will try cleaning it, and I do have some silicone spray I can try.

My emblem was loose when I got the car. I removed it to apply stone guard. It had been assembled with some sort of gasket paste, so I put a little more on there. Seems good so far.

My emblem is a little loose as well, but it is not a problem to tighten it up.
I've also never heard the word 'frunk' before, but apparently it has it's own wiki page, here. :D

I close my front trunk pretty much like ekam does......my wife was asking me how come you have to apply force to close the front lid.....she's used to cars where you just drop the lid and it closes.

Hood Latch Rattle
 

I drop the hood from about 6-12" up and then slowly press down until I hear the click. But it doesn't latch "tight". Seems to be about 1/8-1/4" play that rattles up/down as I press. Is there an adjustment on the latch that can be made?
