Hardtop owners... Got a question for you...
for you guys out there with hardtops that had to have it painted to match your car... how much did it cost to have it done? trying to figure out a fair price to get a top painted don't want to get ripped off...

I'm sorry I can't answer from experience - I was lucky to find one that matched my car.
In my "Miata days" I had a Classic Red top painted Montego Blue for $165. I did not have them remove and replace the rear window. I imagine that painting a Boxster top would be a similar proposition. A first class job probably requires window removal which introduces a risk that the rear window will be broken. (The shop will probably tell you that that they won't be responsible for breakage.) You will also probably need a new weather strip. Given the price for Porsche parts relative to Miata parts, I imagine the potential cost could rise above $600 fairly quickly. |
I was lucky enough to find mine in ocean blue, but I have called around to get quotes on the cost of repainted due to some deep scratches from the previous owner. I got quoted in the range of $350-450, including disassembly.

I got mine painted by a friend of my Dad for $300. He had just sold his body shop. I'm not happy with the job he did though. After one winter I've got a bunch of spots where the black is coming off and you can see the red underneath.
Quotes I got were for about $600-700. |
