Can't seem to recharge battery

The battery in my car had died a month ago during winter storage. I am planning to get it up and running since I am moving within a month.
I have the Porsche Battery maintainer/trickle charger but I can't seem to get it to work.
I know you first plug it into the cig socket before you plug the main unit in.
two ways I've done it

1)Car is off with no key in, plug the charger into cig socket, plug unit into wall, leave along.
After hourse of charging I come back and notice that I can't even turn on the interrior light, the red light on the charger is still on red, and a ticking/click sound can be heard in the rear driver side of the trunk??? Whats that?

2) Put the key in and turn the key over one click(for radio not engine), plug the charger into cig socket, plug the maint unit into the wall.
Check back hours later, not ticking/clicking but there seems to still be no juice in the battery.....

Can someone help me and tell me what I am doing wrong????

If the temperature dropped below freezing with your battery dead, you may not be able to bring it back to life - the cells may have frozen and if so they likely were damaged.

Also, the battery maintainer is just that - it is intended to keep a fully charged battery topped up, but not to recharge it from zero. Any load you place on the system will only make the maintainer lose the battle even faster. You will need a standard charger for real recharging (Wal-Mart has overnight versions for under $20 if I remember correctly).

Talking

Sounds like the battery is simply dead. They do that you know and will not take a charge. OEM Box batteries are notoriously weak, I replace one in almost every Box I buy.

Auto Zone will sell you a nice Box battery for under $100.
