may have found one!!
well, my new friends, i may have found a used boxster in my price range that seems pretty immaculate and tenderly cared for. its a 2002 with about 28,000 miles. 2nd owner. meticulously maintaned mechanically and body wise. heated garage . asking 23.9000. im hoping he will take $20,000. if it is as good as it seems and he will go to my price AND if i can get my finances together i may have one within the week. standard boxster. black on black. 5speed. everything perfect. mechanically and body wise.
sound pretty good???fred from nashville |
If everything checks out and you genuinely like everything about it, go for it but remember those risks we were telling you about.
|
I think your offering a fair price for that car, he should take it. $20k seams to be the high range for older Boxsters, but if it's in great shape, it'll be worth it. We bought the base also, it's pretty fast, just dosen't throw you back in the seat. If it dosen't work out, there are plenty of others out there, good luck!
|
Price seems a bit high to me. FWIW, in October I paid $19,900 at Carmax for my 2002 Boxster S 6-speed with 39,800 miles on it. The car you're looking at has 10k fewer miles, but it's not an S. Just my $.02.
|
Price seems a little on the high side, but if you want it bad enough there no stopping you. Good luck!
|
I have the same car and color scheme. You'll love it. However, I have to agree with everyone else. Not only is the seller asking too much, your offering too much. It's your money, so do what you want, but I would not offer more than $17,000 for that car in this market and maybe go up to $18,000. There are so many sellers out there, it you can do much better than your current offer.

Prices on these cars still vary wildly from region to region. It's been like that for several years. The right price in one part of the country may be way off in another.
|
too high for a 2.7. That's what a 3.2 should go for.
Does it have Litronics? 18" Wheels? Upgraded factory audio? How many miles on the tires? Hardtop? Also, black is one of the few colors some folks outright avoid. Unless its a garage queen, it will look dirty half the time you own it. Personally, a black car is minus 10% off the asking price right off the bat for me. That's just my opine but I'd rather have to sell a silver or red car than a black one. |
i bit!!
well my dear new friends, thanks for your input and great ideas as well as feedback. i looked at the box this morning. it was absolutely immaculate. except for 2 itsy bitsy stone chips on the hood it was damn near perfect. even the plastic window was perfect. it sounded muted but great. i drove it for about
30 miles. solid as a rock. i was worried about the battery , but its new. i thought i would be concerned about the tires but they have only a few hundred miles on the goodyear eagles. i just had a feeling that it was in exceptional shape. boy is it ever.lless than 29,000 miles. 2nd owner. victim of recession in his business. i offered 19999. he took it. now its up to my credit union and whats left of my credit. this is an absolutely exceptional boxster. i hope it goes through. if it does i will be a vociferous contributor to the forum. if not, well, crap! |
money
its' only money, :) many of the comments may be right, but today, where you live, it is (must be) the best deal for you... i could find a lot of more enticing deals when i bought mine, but they were all far far away...
enjoy the car... |
Rock-on Mrfredsporty. You know they have these things today called camera's. I hope you take advantage of one of those things and allow the rest of us 986Fourm fanatics the pleasure of gawking at your new found love.
For me personally, take one of the rear ;) . |
if i could i would
thanx jax. i dont think i can but ill try.
|
gosh it worked!. think ill try another
|
Nice car, congratulations. Are the rims off of a 987? Looks like "Back in Black" is going your theme song.
|
Those are some sharp rims, your car looks super clean! Best of luck with her!
|
Beautiful car. Black on black is one of my top three favorite color combos. (...the other two being red with black interior and Speed Yellow with black interior, which is what I have.) Put a few coats of Zaino on her and enjoy!
|
well, guys and gals, wish me luck at the credit union today. the wheels i believe are the factory alloy option for the 16 inchers. the tires are extremely aggressive eagles but do not look like they are directional. guy i know with a modified nsx had some with the same pattern. very bad boys. black on black is my fav also. followed by red on black. also like tht burgandy metal flake color
|
Hope it works out for you.
BTW, my boxster is black on black and it looks clean most of the time I drive it. Best of luck with your financing. |

As far as color, someone on here has a burgundy on tan that looks classy. |
mrfred..very nice buy! I also like black on black combo but will not dare to buy one coz' I might end up sleeping in the garage to keep it clean :D :D :D
I used to have a black on black mustang and the wifey is going nuts due to the time I spend on cleaning it..it's me not the car :o |
yea1 ANOTHER HURDLE JUMPED
unk that is my other fav color( and red, jax)well i got okd by the credit union! bad news only 36 mos. good news 5% interest!!. hope to get Boxy" thurs. now i need a serious question answered: what is the best site to sell my 2009 kia spectra5 at ( great deal for someone $12,900). again, thamks for all your encouragement. even talked to the mechanic who stated that he only need to see it about once a year and that it was cherry.
|
that's really good news, 36 mo's / 5% interest
I can't recommend any site about your Kia but congrats on your purchase...now the disease begins..PERMAGRIN :D |
I just bought my black/black 2000 2.7 last year. It had 18k miles (19k now). I paid $18k for it which was probably high, but it was from a friend of mine that was the original owner and to say he babied it would be an understatement. He even wiped out the wheel wells every time he parked it back in the garage.
It has never been a daily driver, so I can't really comment on it always looking dirty because it has never seen rain or snow. Dust is my only problem. I can tell you that I truly enjoy spending time cleaning it in the driveway and watching my neighbors turn green with envy. It may get dirty easily, but that is the price worth paying for it looking so sweet when it is clean! If you've done your homework on it you won't regret it! Congrats! |
Congrats on the buy...I've owned numerous black on black 911s and swore I would not buy a black Boxster; well my Box S is black with Savanna, so at least I was partly on track. They are a pain to keep clean, but look so nice when so.
Enjoy the car; cleaning and polishing is part of the fun. BTW, you might try Craigslist on the Kia...that's where I found my son's Jeep Liberty. |
tomorrow is the day (hopefully)
well, i hope to get my money today. then i hope to get "boxey" tomorrow. weather very iffy.i hope my scan II guage will hook right up to the sensor under the dash. the present owner said that when i put the top down im supposed to hesitate halfway down to make sure the plastic window is folding right??? true? tomorrow afternoon im hoping to register it and all that good stuff.
|
yes, mrfred..you gonna have to do the chop like everyone else here who has plastic windows :D
If you don't: -overtime, it will leave a 1" or 2" rip in either mid corners or middle of the plastic windoe -if the weather is cold and you didn't do the chop, it might crack the plastic There's a lot of topic here regarding your concern. Search the thread "Plastic Window or Chop" Here are some of them to keep you inform but not to scare you  :D *a new owner thread that didn't know about the chop* http://986forum.com/forums/boxster-general-discussions/14196-new-owner-didnt-know-about-chop-window-seam-ripped.html?highlight=Plastic+Windows *what happen when it's cold but sunny outside thread* http://986forum.com/forums/boxster-general-discussions/16540-cracked-plastic.html?highlight=Chop *Plastic Window dilema* http://986forum.com/forums/boxster-general-discussions/5039-plastic-window-headache.html?highlight=Plastic+Windows |
lights
thanks unk. tim was showing me the headlights. i could swear that you cn do one headlight at a time (huh??). im very conscious of being seen so all my vehicles i run the headlights in the day as well. im afraid i know the answer, but ar the headlights auto turn off ??
|
I don't think you could do one headlight at a time and it's not auto turn off. plus you don't need to turn your headlight on during daytime coz' with that car..they could see you a mile away :)
|
the chop!?!?
ha ha thanks unk. now here is a tougher question for you. what is the proper way to do the chop and what does it do exactly. sunday its supposed to reach 50 degrees. can i put the top down if im careful. it will be outdoors so i cant warm up the top. oh the questions continue. thanks my new friends
|
the proper way to chop is like chopping your plastic window while it's halfway down to make sure that theres no crease before closing it all the way down *im not sure if this make sense, if you need more clarification, check the first thread i gave you*
after reading it, go for a drive this sunday and enjoy the road while everybody is watching football  no need to warm up the top, im talking about the plastic window that you need to be careful when it's sunny outside but cold esp. if you park outdoor or even in the garage |
picked up boxey today!!
yea! picked up boxey today. runs great. very smooth . tranny very crisp. hard to tell how fast im going. does rattle when go over sharp bumps. no lean at all in corners.very basic. i just keep my fingers crossed the engine does not explode. my insurance agent called. said "fred, its only going to cost $450 per month!!!!!!" yikes . im afraid i said some bad words. then he said it was only an insurance joke and that it would cost me $600 year. ok i say.
|
I wouldn't recommed lowering the top if the weather is below 60. If you must warm up the cockpit full blast until the plastic doesn't feel so cold from the outside. You will get a wrinkle in the plastic that could take weeks to stretch out again with these temps.
By the way, congratulations! man that reminds me of my first sports car purchase. I'd never applied for a loan before. Wasn't sure if I would be approved. I don't think I slept a wink the night before. I was about to cash out some stock (a bad idea) if they didn't give me the moolah because my buddy was selling me the car at half of bluebook. Then the next day the Bank offered me like four times of what I was asking for. Then came the mods... :o |
what the heck!!
thanks perf. now what about that incredibly complicated radio? also, the cup holders are definitely not designed for americans!!how do i carry my diet coke and sip on the way? what a wonder of german engineering (yikes).did my first mod earlier this afternoon. cost me 2 dollars to get a round convex mirror for drivers side mirror. i admit i put that on every vehicle ive had for many years. sure gets that outside lane and blindspot too. cheap safety.
|
Congrats! It's beautiful! $600/year for insurance? Wow, I'm totally jealous. Mine's more than double that and I have a great driving record. Gotta love Louisiana. What are the cup holders like? I have a 987 so I'm sure they are different.
|
thanx love. well, after 47 yrs of no tickets no accidents my record is ok. its not that i have not deserved tickets etc but ive been careful and watchful. the "cup holders" are dinky. cant hold anything of volume. i need some sort of after market cup holder that will hold my 20 oz coke.

mrfredsporty:
Beautiful car - congratulations! Here is an option for you. Not inexpensive but works well for me with an occasional bottle of water. I'm sure it will work equally well with a 20 ounce Coke. ddb http://www.ultimatecupholders.com/ http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r...n0529/002a.jpg |
