I read in Motor Trend that Porsche is looking at four cylinder turbos for the Boxster and Cayman. In addition, Feb '09's Motor Trend shows a GT2 getting spanked by a ZR1

The really good news is that the 2009 engine no longer contains an IMS. So, if our engines are going to grenade, they will have to find another reason to do so!

Get the LN billet oil filter adapter and change your oil every 5k miles or less...maybe the motor you save will be your own.

As I understand it, the IMS defect has nothing to do with lubrication.

Pure engineering mistake I understand.

Of course, without an IMS, it should be history.

Is it really true that the 2.9 liter motor uses the new block? I was under the impression that the 2.9 was just a bored out 2.7 and stilluses the old block config (with IMS :-( ). Only the 3.4, 3.6 and 3.8 get the new block design.

I was told by a Porsche salesperson (a knowledgeable one, not a village idiot) that neither of the 987 models had the new block. The 3.4 has direct injection, but it's still got an IMS. Only the 911's got the new block.

I am content to drive my 986 until the all-new bodystyle comes out with the 911 motor in it.

Mark, another forum member and a buddy of mine, drove a 2009 Carrera on track day in December and said he did not like the PDK tranny and really hated the way the new motor sounded. He compared it to a giant sewing machine or something akin to that.
