DVD Navigation installation

I have a 2000 Boxster and wonder if anyone has installed a 2 din system in place of their stereo. If you have, could you share your experience? I'm looking at a Jensen http://www.al-eds.com/Jensen-VM9022HDN-p18718.html.

There's also a guy that posts on www.renntech.org that sells a 2-din install kit with wiring harness for our cars on ebay. A friend of mine has one and its really nice.

I used the double din kit for our cars from ebay and it worked great. I sure dont miss the wire running from the lighter to the Garmin on the dash.

I did this modification as well; It's been very worthwhile. Kenwood DNX-8120 makes an excellent factory-look in-dash NAV system. iPod interface is excellent as well.
I had absolutely zero experience installing / working on car stereo equipment, and I managed to pull this off in a few nights. Most of my time was spent reading the instructions and comparing to what I saw in the car, so I bet I could get this done in an afternoon if I had to do it again.

I couldn't recommend this upgrade to you enough. Do it! Treat yourself.

***edit*** If you are any good with electronics, the blue LEDs started to get to me on the Kenwood after a while... I may pull the car apart again while she's sleeping the winter away and see if I can swap the blues for some dimmer amber LEDs...

Nicely done! I specially like the subwoofer on your car site (edevlin). I notice that you both have different setup (cd storage and empty tray). Will the kit allow you for either setup or did you have to specify when you order as I don't see an option about ording the different option other than to include brand and model.

Great job

Really fantastic job on the installs by the way. It's great to see that the installation of a radio unit is not strictly exclusive to professional installers and that anyone with a bit of time and patience can replicate the same results. Plus there is something to be said about being proud of your own handy work...so good on ya'.

Merry Christmas everyone!

The owners manual will walk you through the steps to drop in the Porsche logo. You basically put it on a CD and walk through the menu to copy it. I have the Porsche logo file that fits if you need it, PM me.
