Moved To Washington State...Where to Drive?

Hey all, Just moved to Washington state to a place called Whidbey Island off the coast of Seattle. It seems nice although I miss the Carolina blue skies as it has been traded for daily clouds and rain. But you can't beat the mountains! Anyway, anyone have any suggestions for fun roads/roadtrips that I could take the box on?

Thanks,
Greg

I was in the tri city area back in may (Kenniwick-Richland-Pasco) Had a blast running around outside of town. I did almost wreck as I watched a tumble weed go past me from the other direction. We don't have those here in Va.

Winter kind of limits your options around here (I live between Everett and Seattle), but when it warms up, the roads around Mt Rainier are a blast to drive, and its beautiful country.

The North Cascades Hwy is also totally gorgeous, especially for top-down driving.

Welcome to the Sunny Northwest!

Welcome to Washington. As mentioned, there are lots of nice drives in the area and even more so next summer when it gets here. Here are some to try:
  • North Cascades Hiway
  • Mt. Rainier loop
  • Eastern Washington via Hiway 2
  • Olympic Penninsula, Hurricane Ridge and Hoh rain forest
  • Chuckanutt Drive up by Bellingham
  • Columbia River Gorge old hiway east of Portland
Also, get involved with the local PCA chapter, and/or the Puget Sound Region BMW CCA Chapter, as both have organized drives that usually include back roads you won't easily find on your own.

Chuckanut Drive

You won't be driving Chuckanut Drive for a while.

From Washington State DOT:
SR 11 - Closed to traffic on SR 11 in both directions from MP 12.50 after EXIT TO REST AREA to MP 14.20 before EXIT TO LARRABEE ST PARK since 1:30 PM, 11/10/08 until further notice due to rock fall
From milepost 12 to milepost 15
Report Detail: A large rockslide is blocking both lanes of SR 11 (Chuckanut Drive) at milepost 13.3, near the Whatcom-Skagit county line. Drivers can detour around the area by using I-5.
