Foam Gun

I am thinking about buying a foam gun, like this:

http://www.autopia.org/shopping/search.php?q=foam+gun

Doe anyone use this in their car washing routine?

I have one and use it all the time. I bought mine from amazon.com. They sell something very similar and it was about $40 from what I remember. I also just dump in a lot of whatever car wash solution I have handy - I don't use the extreme foaming soap they sell. Just the regular car wash stuff I have seems to foam up very nicely!

For those who use these, can you explain the advantage of a foam gun over a good 'ol hand wash? My car is black and I'm always very careful with washing and drying. I assume if you "foam" the car up, you still need to sponge, cloth or brush to get the car clean.

Yes that's correct. The foam gun just gives the car a nice lather to start with. Depending on how dirty the car is, I also hit the section of car I'm scrubbing with a shot of foam before I sponge over it.
