Too big for a Cayman?

Im 6' 230lbs

Ive sat in a 02 911 before and it felt WAY small for me.

Im also used to driving a big lifted truck.

Just curious to see how big alot of you drivers are?

Lordblood 08-18-2008 08:34 PM

I'm 6'2" 184 lbs in a Porsche Boxster, which I believe has a lower roofline than the Cayman.

I fit in just fine, it feels a bit tight if you get in from big car, but I got used to it quite quickly.

FrayAdjacent 08-18-2008 08:53 PM

At 6'1", 180, the seat bolsters feel snug on me.... would probably be annoying if I were 50# heavier.

coreseller 08-19-2008 03:35 AM

I'm about your same size Lifted and yep the Boxster feels a bit snug but so do most smallish cars I get into (I had a Mustang Cobra before the Porsche, those seats were terrible). I joke that I'm about 3 biscuits away from being too fat for the Boxster but it really isn't the case, as long as you're still limber and not out of shape getting in and out isn't an issue.

insite 08-19-2008 03:49 AM

i'm 6' / 245lb. i fit ok in the box. i'm all torso, though. my legs are pretty short for my height (30.5" inseam). if my legs were much longer, the boxster would not be very comfortable. the new caymans / boxsters have a little more room.

i fit fine in the 996 and even better in the 997.

ekam 08-19-2008 03:51 AM

No short and fat person driving Boxsters?

I'm 6'2" and 190lbs and I fit pretty good and that's one of the biggest reason I bought this car.

renzop 08-19-2008 09:57 AM

I am short and fat 5'8" 300#. I really have no problems in my '08 Boxster. It feels plenty roomy but I am used to not fitting well. Also I understand 987s have more interior room than the 986.

gball 08-19-2008 10:29 AM

6'4", 220#

No fit problems. I will admit that I prefer a tight cockpit as I think it aids in spirited driving, but I am honestly more comfortable in the Boxster than I was in my old Audi A4 or I am in my Chevy Blazer.

gregdacat 08-19-2008 10:39 AM

5'9" 158lbs No problems

I don't know what all the fuss is about. ;)

I'm 5'11" and USED to weigh 160 when I ran marathons...I've now ballooned to 200lbs, but fit perfectly fine in the Box S and my 911 with Recaro SPGs.

9eighty6 08-19-2008 04:29 PM

5'6 / 160lbs ... I find it to be very spatious, haha

TriGem2k 08-19-2008 04:59 PM

6'1 185lbs with no problems and I have GT3 seats...

Cloudsurfer 08-19-2008 08:31 PM

5' 8" and 180 pounds. What's all the fuss about ;)

Patrick

944boy 08-19-2008 08:44 PM

5'10" 180, I fit well. However I still prefer my 17" Kirkey's in my 944!

LoveBunny 08-19-2008 09:23 PM

I'm 5'0", 105 pounds, so obviously no problem fitting.

My brother is about 6', 200+ and he has only ridden as a passenger but doesn't like my car and feels like it's too small for him. He's used to driving a Jeep Cherokee.

fragdude 08-19-2008 10:03 PM

I'm 5'10" and 206 pounds (i play rugby and work out too much/not enough). I fit fine, a bit snug, but fine. My brother who is about an inch taller and 10 pounds lighter thinks its a bit snug, but more than comfortable enough for a 3 hour drive (which he has done). You should be fine, but it depends on your seating position in your truck

bmussatti 08-20-2008 05:17 AM

6'2"
215 pounds
4.45 (40)
9.5 sacks

Fit great!

benjoid 08-20-2008 07:58 PM

Im 6 2 and about 180llbs, I do find it a bit tight in the Boxster, Ive got all the seat adj as far back and as low as it goes and still would prefer a little more room, I dont know how someone taller than me would fit, maybe it depends on the leg to body length ratio.

Do you have a 986 or a 987? The 987 offers more leg and headroom, with the re-design.

Dragonwind 08-21-2008 03:03 AM

I'm 6'4" 219 (and falling) and at my heaviest I was 243 and no problems and I have long legs too.
Chris

Quickurt 08-21-2008 04:45 AM

6' - 255 lb. and no problems at all. The 987 is roomier than the 986s I test drove, but I drove my avatar at 235, so, tight fit in a Boxster? I doubt it!! :D
The cayman does seem to have more headroom than the box, but, maybe because you know the top won't go down, the cayman felt a little "clostrophobic" to me and the box doesn't......?

releese78 08-22-2008 12:46 PM

6'4" 250lbs, no problem at all....I did have to get the GT3 console delete though.

chig 08-22-2008 12:53 PM

I'm only 5'7' and 170 lbs (I have a large back from working out) and the seats are extremely tight for me. My lats rest on the support wings of the seat. Fortunately, it's a weekend car. As a daily driver, it would drive me nuts!

ive got a 986, when I first got the car my head was almost in the breeze until I realised I need to move the seat forward so I could then lower it further.

Bobiam 09-10-2008 07:34 PM

I'm 6'3" and 212#. My 986 with the GT# console delete kit is very comfortable.

The shame is that I absolutely can NOT own a 987 or Cayman as the darn vertical portion of the console is intrusive and it can't be removed or altered.

I agree. I would have sold my car if it were not for the GT3 delete option. I considered upgrading for the extra 50 hp, but the 987 is just not comfortable enough with the new console preventing the GT3 delete option.

I'm 6'1" and 245. I was a Div 1 linebacker 10 yrs ago and still have the same basic build, just a little softer

And as you and other tall guys know, that console is a problem with almost every car on the planet today. Disgusting......

Before you decide you can't handle the 987. I have the same center console gripe (6' - 255) but I found a simple and cheap solution. I bought a wrestler's knee pad which is a pad on a full wrap elastic band, and wear it under my pants. I did it to begin with because my right knee bothers me and it rubbed right at the bottom of my right kneecap (the most painful part to begin with). After wearing the pad to stop the banging and rubbing on the center console, guess what happened? The slight support of the elastic wrap made my knee all better!
Now I wear one of the three I own at least four days a week. I keep one in the frunk (front trunk), in case I forget to pack it for a trip, which I did two weekends ago.
One nice part of this older than dirt crap is you finally begin to understand yourself! :D
