Am I missing a part?
Hi All,
Newly acquired 2000 Boxster S and since the fueling instructions reference "hanging" the fuel cap on the door, I assume I am missing something on my fuel door - see pic. Correct?

I'm pretty sure my fuel door looks like that too. A Porsche savy tech named Pedro made a little mod that looks like this:

I do it differently. I just place it upside down in the indentation in the cowl.
This won't scratch the paint on the gas cap door, and doesn't require you to
cut a slot in the gas cap.

Tech ain't so savy.
1997-2000 had slots on the cap to hang on the gas lid. 2001 the tether style started - no more slots.
But then there was a recall a few years ago for the gas cap. 1998 to I think 2001 or maybe 2002. New style cap without the slots was put on as part of the recall.
If you look at your emission sticker there should be a sticker stating the recall was done, and that is why you have no slots on your cap.
I have a 1997 and it was not subject to the recall, so I have the original cap.

Mystery solved
Ah Hah! This makes "sense". I thought the slot just below the cap in your pic was supposed to hold a hanger of some sort. Mystery solved. Thanks!

My 2000S has a hook built onto the door that will hold the cap by the tether strap.

I was at a Porsche event today.
Here is a 2000 2.7 made in January 2000.
No hook.
He has the recalled gas cap with the tether removed.
Has the hole for the end of the tether, but no hook.
