Am I missing a part?

Hi All,

Newly acquired 2000 Boxster S and since the fueling instructions reference "hanging" the fuel cap on the door, I assume I am missing something on my fuel door - see pic. Correct?

fragdude 07-23-2008 07:08 PM

I'm pretty sure my fuel door looks like that too. A Porsche savy tech named Pedro made a little mod that looks like this:

I do it differently. I just place it upside down in the indentation in the cowl.
This won't scratch the paint on the gas cap door, and doesn't require you to
cut a slot in the gas cap.

Tech ain't so savy.

1997-2000 had slots on the cap to hang on the gas lid. 2001 the tether style started - no more slots.

But then there was a recall a few years ago for the gas cap. 1998 to I think 2001 or maybe 2002. New style cap without the slots was put on as part of the recall.

If you look at your emission sticker there should be a sticker stating the recall was done, and that is why you have no slots on your cap.

I have a 1997 and it was not subject to the recall, so I have the original cap.

EZ flo....sounds like a laxative....

Mystery solved

Ah Hah! This makes "sense". I thought the slot just below the cap in your pic was supposed to hold a hanger of some sort. Mystery solved. Thanks!

My 2000S has a hook built onto the door that will hold the cap by the tether strap.

I was at a tech session with 2 old time Boxster owners. Both are the original owners of 2000s. One has the hook and the other does not. One is older than the other. The newer 2000 has the hook. So some time during model year 2000 production Porsche switched over to the fuel lid with the hook.

Neither of these cars came with the gas cap with the tether. They had the gas caps with the slots like my 1997. Both were subject to the recall and the sloted caps replaced with the 2001 style cap.

You can see cbennet1's picture of a 2000 has no hook, while your 2000 does. I would bet your car is newer.

The hook is useless without the tether. They'd have to be added together.

I was at a Porsche event today.

Here is a 2000 2.7 made in January 2000.

No hook.

He has the recalled gas cap with the tether removed.

Has the hole for the end of the tether, but no hook.
