Most I've seen have black tops... there's a few metropol blue out there, and a couple of gray tops are around as well.

Of course, if the customer spec'd the car he or she could have chosen any color they wanted.

Why do you ask?

The most common color top that went with arctic silver was black. But there are other options if you want to replace the top with a new color. I think in '99 the only other top colors where graphite grey, and metro. blue.

If you want to see pictures of silver with different color tops, look at here: http://www.whiteson.org/boxster/gallery/

The first question is how much are you paying for the grey top? You can get a new retro fit aftermarket top WITH a glass window for between $700 and $1000 ($700 for a Robbins Top and $1000 for a GAHH top. Now this is just for the canvas not the convertible frame. I'd prefer a nice german 15 black canvas on a silver box.

I thought I wanted a seal gray box, with graphite interior and the gray top....until I saw one in person. Too blah and too many shades of gray. I'm glad I made the trip to Miami instead of making a deal over the net, because it looked way different in person than it did in photos.
I say this to caution the silver car with a gray top.
What color interior do you have?

Consider

buying a "used" frame and top from a 2003 or 2004 Boxster.

The new for 2003 frame allows a larger glass window than the after market tops that fit the frames used in 1997-2002.

These are available from wrecks.

I'm relatively new to the Boxster (eight months) and the rear window of my 2001 will most likely need replacing before the year is up and the top has a few scuff marks on it. I was thinking of going with a new top with rear glass rather than the plastic window but didn't like the idea of the smaller window.

Mike, your post implies that the 2003 frame will fit an earlier model car. This would be great in order to keep window size up. Are there any issues in putting in a 2003+ frame and top?

Thanks in advance!
