elf/total is great stuff, I have it in the P-Car, my Audi, and in the GTi, that see's A LOT of AutoX.

M1 on the other hand, I have nothing good to say about it anymore. While it was the shiz several years back, it is only "average" now.

Anyone have any experience with a Brand of Oil named "Royal Purple?"

I hear good stuff about Royal Purple. A well know Porsche indy shop here in the Chicago area only uses RP oil and trans/gear lube for the air cooled Porsche engines. They do lots of race cars for the PCA too. A few guys here use it. CJ in Calli does.

To my knowledge both Royal Purple and Red Line are class V synthetics. Not too many of those bad boys left.

Refers to the base oil used to make the motor oil.

Class 5 have base oils made of Poly-ol-esters. These are used in jet engine lube etc.

Class 4 are base oils made of Poly-ol-alephins. Also very good but one step below.

Class 3 are made of hydrocracked petroleum oils. Called synthetic by some, but not in Europe.

I don't vouch for my spelling the above chemicals correctly.

I used to run Royal Purple in all my other 911s, up until I bought a '73. The stuff leaks like mad out of early gaskets. That said, I just read an article about "Total" the other day and will probably use that for the next Box S change. BTW, the indy shop (I assume) in Chicago is who does all my work and built my 911 track cars.

I haven't heard anyone talk about AMSOIL. On their website it shows it passed the Volkswagen 505.01 test and has an API SM rating. I personally have been using it for 15 years in everything from my quad, Harley, SUV and Boxster. Anyone have any opinions about AMSOIL?
