An experienced shop would charge you about 10-12 hours labor.
The replacement bearing varies greatly depending on whether you would like a permanent replacement (no bearings) or one that needs to replaced again (has bearings). An inexpensive unit is a few hundred dollars or less, an expensive one can range from $600 to over $1,000.
Typically you replace the clutch while you are doing this since it's the same procedure, so add the cost of the clutch and RMS seal as well if you're mileage is moderate to high.

That's the way I feel. 196,00 and running strong, although my clutch will be replaced in a couple weeks.

137k miles and my 2000 has a double row IMSB so I'm going to wait until I replace the clutch before I do anything.

Much of the issue is hysteria. But on the other hand simple mechanical engineering logic will tell you that all sealed bearings need to be replaced within some interval. The mere fact that Porsche settled this case when they could have easily written a check for whatever amount a jury may have awarded, in the uncertain event of a plaintiff's victory, tells you they were more concerned with the discovery of documents and worse, expert discovery, leaking out. In other words there are likely to be estimates of the number of cars that Porsche believed could go down if all those single row bearings stayed in indefinitely. Estimates I'm betting would have been revised up since there are multiple owners In most cases which inherently leads to inconsistent maintenance.

Discovery had already occurred and the figure were known and are public.

So we have an idea of the failure rate but not the shape of the years/miles versus failure curve.

The funny thing is every engine ever built can fail and they all can fail at the worst possible time (think of that as you try to squeeze in between those semis). But we know so much (or think we do) and care so much about these beautiful cars we can't stand for them to have a fault.

Do wheel bearings wear/fail? Do throwout bearings wear/fail? So why not IMS bearings?

If there was a $2k rebuilt engine available like there was for my Caravan, we wouldn't be as concerned. But $8k to $20k is a lot of money and lots of the people buying these cars now don't have the spare cash lying around.
