In dash DVD/GPS? Pioneer AVIC-N4 maybe?

Have a 04 S , can anyone recommend a good aftermarket in dash dvd/gps/radio? Ipod dock and Satellite functions built in are hard to fine.

This pioneer is one of the few I could find:

with a '04 you have cupholders above the radio - right?
Get rid of the cupholders and install a double height unit
I would wait for the Pioneer AVIC-F series:

I have the Pioneer Avic D3 with the ipod control and love it. Sometimes, I wish I would have went with the double din as they look great in our dash. The reason why I said sometimes is because I personally do not like to put the top up. During sunny weather the screen does get washed out so I end up folding it away as it is obsolete and the led display is more visible. Also I like that it folds away so that it is not as obvious to thieves. But like i said the double din does look good!

boxs2000, you don't have the AVIC-D3. The D3 is a double-din, which is what I have and a few other members.

zdc, do a search. This topic has been covered many many times.

single din for 2005

I have Alpine's best single DIN unit (9887) and want to replace the stock 2005 HU. I didnt realize the 2004 had a faceplate like that. Dont much careabout the cupholders, but they do fill the space. Bottom line: will the 2004 HU faceplate fit the comparable space in the '05 dash? (the Alpine stuff was purchased when I thought I'd Putin in my Cooper S; bought Boxster instead).

decided on Kenwood Excelon DNX8120

Thx for everyone's feedback, with that and talking to some customer installers it seemed double din was the way to go.

The Kenwood Excelon DNX8120 most say is one of if not the best out there, is on it's way and I'll have some pics from the myer emco installation shortly...

5.1 audio in Boxsters?

Have you done the install of the Kenwood DNX8120 unit and what is it like to live with it. I have been thinking about one of those units and was especially interested in the speaker setup modes that it provides. In addition to traditional speaker configurations, it offers DTS and Dolby Digital Prologic II setups with options for front, center, side, rear speakers and subwoofer.

Has anyone tried running a 5.1 surround audio setup with the dash speakers as left and right fronts (or mono centers), the door speakers as left and right sides (or left and right fronts) and the rear speakers as left and right rears (or mono rears).

I have had good luck with surround systems in my home audio system and I cannt help but think it would work well in the Boxster. BTW, I already have six channels of outboard amps I am using to drive the the front, door and rear speakers, so it would be easy to convert it to a 5.1 setup if the head unit supported it,

Ed
