Canadian Boxsters - all lights on all the time?

Hello all,

Great forum this is with great contributors. I have a question for the Canucks in the forum:

I have a 2001 Boxster S which I purchased last year here in Ontario. I notice that all my lights (normal headlights, sidemarkers, and taillights) are on all the time, once the ignition is on.

Is this normal for Canadian 986's? Any mods to turn off tails and sidemarkers, and have only headlights (ie. daytime running lights) on until I turn the headlight switch?

Thanks in advance!

It depends on if it's a Canadian car or what mod was done to turn on the DRL. I have a 2001 Canadian spec in the shop with litronic that uses the factory relay for DRL and everything is on when it's running.

I've also installed universal DRL kits that only active the low beam lamps when the ignition is on.

So is that an American car then you are referring to, or a Canadian car?

A Canadian car shouldn't require any "setup" to have DRLs, as it of course is delivered that way. This question is really aimed at owners of Canadian spec cars, bought in Canada, I'm wondering if they have *all* the lights on (headlights, sidemarkers, and taillights) when the engine is running, as my Canadian spec car does.

I have an 01S Canadian car - the lights are always on. The only reason to use the internal light switch is to turn on the internal lights and fog lights.

I remember many years ago when Greyhound started using their headlights in the daytime. MY Dad, who was a throwback to the old days, even in the old days said:" Any man that can't see a damn Greyhound bus in broad daylight shouldn't be on the road".

ditto to what ancster said:

Canadian spec car, all lights on, all the time (including sides and tails)

Don't know how to change it ... it doesn't really bother me though. Not like I see it from inside the cabin ...

Look at the black sticker on the door to see if it is a Canadian car. You can also look at the option sticker for the country code. Canada is C36.
