I live in Virginia, but have an elderly parent in Florida that I visit several times a year. It is just under 800 miles one way and I normally do the trip in one day, usually takes about 12 hours. Most of the trip is along interstate 95, which I normally dont mind driving as long as there are no major accidents.
Before I start the trip back up to Virginia tomorrow morning, the top will go down, I will plug in my 320 gig ipod, which at last count has over 12,000 songs on it. I will then briefly warm up the engine and the 600 watts of power in the two big JL Audio class AB power amps powering the front, door and rear speakers as well as the subwoofer. Then, with the red bull at the ready if needed, its time for a ROAD TRIP MAN!. BTW, those amps get HOT after rocking on loud for 6 hours straight between fuel changes.
Only thing I need to worry about is if I miss a spot for the sun goop or if I get the my face stuck in the stupid grin I have on it almost the whole time I am behind the wheel. I actually get a kick out of being a good-will ambassator for our cars by similing and waving at most folks that I go by.
I am normally a very careful and conservative driver especially on interstates. I set the cruse at 7 mph over the speed limit, adjust for work zones and such and away I go. But occasionally when there is a big empty stretch of road and nobody in front of me, the car cries out to stretch its legs and we have to briefly run up into the triple digits, just up to 115 when I drove south from Virginia to Florida, then I quickly got back on the brakes and back to crusing speed.
I am pleased to see how well the car is still pulling nicely at that speed with the top down. BTW, I jumped into a group of cars traveling in the mid 90's for a few miles on the trip down south, then jumped out again to my normal crusing speed. It does not seem safe and responsible to be passing other cars at speed like that.
