Moving to LA...is this a problem?

I have a 2001 S and will be moving from Michigan to LA next month. Am I going to have a problem passing the CA smog test? The only mod I have done is change the exhaust to the GHL stainless steel. The car was purchased in VA who also have smog test. Someone told me that CA cars are different because of the emission laws.

Thanks.

Gary

Unless there is something else wrong with your car, you shouldn't have a problem passing smog w/ the GHL.

Yes it could be a problem. Any aftermarket parts that are engine related MUST be C.A.R.B. exempt. I was warned that I could have had to remove my Top Speed exhaust when it came time to smog my car.

Luckily most smog shops don't know much about Porsches and overlook the inspection and just hook up the mic and as long as the measurements come out fine then it's o.k.

My last smog shop had a technician get look under the car with a mirror.........you just have to do your research and talk to people in LA that have had their cars smogged in the region.

Blinwatts right, no engine mods that they might see. Then I think it just has to meet the emission standards of the state it was originally sold.

Regards, PK

P.S. Though its a a crapshoot, people get away with quite a lot, as long as it passes the sniff test...

Aren't there a lot of people in Cali with the GHL muffler on their Boxsters? I don't think it should be a problem because the muffler is post cats.
