I think it may have started after I cleaned the outside of the window with standard liquid glass cleaner. It might be a coincidence though. The cleaner is a solvent which may have got into the seal between the window and the hood. If I can lubricate the seal this might help although i don't want to make a mess of the hood. I will have another look this week and post if i have any success.
