How to setup iPod Shuffle (or Aux) on a 987

I have an 06 987, with a Bose sound system. I want to basically play the music on my iPod on the system, but don't need any of the fancy ipod integration with track names or anything, just basically want an auxiliary port to plug in my ipod shuffle (or other devices, like a PSP). what solutions do you guys suggest? the dension gateway 500 seems like overkill for my needs...

Unfortunately the Dension seems to be the only solution.

On my 2003 Boxster S with a CDR23 head unit, I also don't get the track names or anything like that. It's basically a really expensive aux-in port and charger.

It works though, and there's no other way that I know of to get from your iPod to your MOST system. (Well there are FM modulators, but I'd rather listen to tire noise than listen to anything through an FM modulator.)

Hi, I read here that someone got an FM Modulator done at Abt electronics and it worked out well.

Last I checked the Denison is right around 500 bucks?

My wife got me a modulator from Best Buy, this was supposed to be an $80 solution, well after $140 of install alone, I took off and it sounded like crap,

I brought it back and they told me the modulator was incompatible and tried to get me into the Harman Kardon plug and play, idrive? that get this, fixed "most" of the issues....I was looking at $200 dollars more for the product or so and additional install....

So moral to the story, I gave them everything back, and contested their install fees, and will go the Denison route in the near future....and told myself, next time you know you don't want morons working on your car, trust yourself that you know better....

FM modulators suck. Period. Don't even try this avenue.

You have to get your iPod wired directly into your system one way or another.

Porsche baffles me sometimes. Why they didn't put a headphone style jack on the front of the 987's is beyond me. Even more baffling is why they didn't introduce MP3 friendly Cd players until 2008.

For a company that's so advanced in performance areas, they sure do lag behind in simple electronic things that would make our cars far more enjoyable to own.

these mp3 friendly cd players that you speak of that were introduced in 2008, were they PCM or the CDR? I have the CDR, do you think I could just do a switch out with a factory 08 version of the unit?

I could be all wrong, but I think the MP3 compatible players were only installed in the PCM versions.

I think it's because your engine makes sweeter music than the radio/CD can.

So there.

I use this is the Mercedes and it works great :

I tried about a dozen FM modulators before I found this one and the sound is crystal clear.

( lucky for me the Box was wired for an Ipod when I bought it )

Might be worth the $35 to give it a shot...
