Oh Yes! Sniped a storage box cheap!

Bought a rear storage box (so I can get speakers installed) on Ebay tonight for $155.00.

Dealer wanted $575!

Actually, $155.00 is steep for a plastic box, but oooh, it has PORSCHE written on the inside of it, so I'll be looking for the gold plating. NOT.

There's another on Ebay right now, but it's already at $179 and climbing. Here's the link:

Yea, I was looking at that one...perhaps I'll place a bid in the last few hours of bidding...

Thanks!

Question

I'm interested in installing rear speakers as well. My 2000 986 already has the storage bin in the center with the sliding doors, and the cut-outs on each end. I thought this was standard. Why does my car have it and others don't?

Thanks,

Derek

It's a 579.00 option. Did you buy your boxster new? If not, someone paid dearly for it, or had them throw it in to sweeten the deal at the dealership.

Rear speaker kits can be purchased on Ebay as well, and usually run 295.00 or so. I just bought a set from a guy in Greece off Ebay for 145.00, which was the second cool boxster purchase I'd made in a couple of days.

If you don't want to buy the box and the speakers, there's a good link as to how to wire up self-contained speakers behind the headrests through ppbb

I am told that adding rear speakers makes a whopping difference in the sound of the stereo, especially when the top is down and you're doing 80 on the freeway.

RandallNeighbour,

I've only had the car for 2 weeks. Are you saying new it cost $579 just for the sliding storage compartment? What is in that location if you don't have the option?

I definitely want to add the rear speakers. I will have to wait. First I need new front tires (the PO just replaced the rears), I want to add the B&M shift kit, clear lights (rear and side, I haven't decided on the front), and then CD chnager & rear speakers.

Thanks for the information!

Derek

If you don't have the speaker/storage box, you don't have anything. Just a carpeted area, sometimes with a little "cargo-net."
