This is what the article's author said about how they came up with the list...

"The Methodology
To find our best- and worst-selling vehicles of 2007, we looked at year-to-date sales data on a model-by-model basis, as compiled by Automotive News, which relies on regular sales reports from automakers. Finding the best-sellers was easy, but since model-year transitions vary depending on the manufacturer and model, when picking out the worst-sellers, we looked past models that only sold for part of the year or were being introduced or phased out. With each respective vehicle, best or worst, we consulted data for the same 10-month period for 2006 and indicate the percentage change over the year period."

However, it doesn't say what their criteria was for a car manufacturer to be included.
What's the cut-off point for 'normal' car maker vs 'exotic' or 'boutique'?

" .... according to Teahen, the "mainstream" luxury vehicles like those on our list are much more susceptible to swings in the market, as opposed to ultra-exclusive "boutique" luxury vehicles, such as Rolls-Royces and Maybachs."

Hmmm, apparently Porsche cars are just mainstream- like a Chevy.

I had to do some analysis on this recently. Yes, Boxster sales are down. But from what I can tell, a main reason for the decrease in sales is because the hard-top Boxster (I think it's called the Cayman ) has cannibalized some of the Boxster's sales. If you're in the market for a new Box, now is the time to buy.

But I don't see this as a death knell for the existing product line. I do expect Porsche will drop manufacturing volume in 08 and beyond, but other than that, I highly doubt they'd consider axeing the line at this point.

But if they did, it would likely have a positive effect on the value of our cars!!
