Audi S4

I know this is a porsche forum but i am looking for a 1997-2002 audi s4 . Either 5 or 6 spd. I been doing some research on them and see that they are upper 200 hps or more in newer yrs. I am trying to get a feel if anyone had one and what they thought about it. Right now that would be my next car since the porsche is a summer car and i want something different but somewhat inexpensive which they are on ebay as well at local dealers. Mileage doesn't really scare me cause i bought my boxster with like 89k miles and put about 4k into it over 2 yrs . So please anyone who has some info let me know. I am looking to see what was the common problems with these are cars Most of them are twin turbo or biturbo which basically the same thing .

The B5 S4 was only imported for the 00-02 years, all are 6 speeds or.. bleh, Tiptronics I had a 2000 6 speed for a few years.
It was chipped, some mods and fast as hell!
Great cars, I love Audi's but I had a decent amount of issues and the dealers service was horrible! (It was a CPO)
Horsepower is 250, just a stage one chip will get you 320+
Turbo replacments are issues with these cars and they are expensive to maintain.
Timing belts are key! make sure any car you look at has had it done by 60K miles.
Freind of mine just picked up a really nice 01 for $14.5, they are allot of car for the money.

Why would you want Audi, instead of a Porsche?
(I have to ask, because this is a Porsche forum)
I personally would be wary of buying an Audi, my cousin has a TT, and has had nothing but problems with it.
I would try posting an an Audi forum, for info on this.

i have an 02 audi that i drive when im not in the box and i love that car like crazy....honestly the audi has just as much to offer as the Porsche. the s4 and the boxster are completely diff cars in diff categories. its a power beast and u can rack up a lot of HP...i haven't had any problems with mine yet whatsoever and so far is has around 55k on it. my friend had a problem with the transmition on his when it reached 80k but it might just be bad luck and also he drive it like a crazy man...
anyway overall id definitely recommend the car to anyone who likes power cuz ull get a lot more power from it then the box, altho the box is more nimble then it. like i said its a completely different class of a ride

Try Audiworld and Audizine. (Audizine is my favorite).
My daily is a 99 A4 with mods. I bought it new and it's now 8 years old with 163k and running like new still! I've only done regular maintenance like clutch, timing belt etc.
From my experience Audi's are solid!

Hey Jacques!

Thanks, I am really enjoying the 996, the sound it makes when you get on it is awesome, I miss the point & shoot handling of the 986S but the extra power is just what I was looking for.
I will add a Boxster back to the fleet someday
Hows the 02?

Sorry about the thread jack, back to the Audi S4 talk

I haven't had the s4 bu I've had an A4 2.8 and 2 a6 audis and I have to say that they are well made cars and the quattro is awesome in the snow. They are not the driving joy of the box though.
