The mesh inserts may look better. but they do nothing to reducing wind noise (in my opinion). They are just another thing that can fall off of the car on the freeway.
My seats are normally positioned so that I can see out the opening in the roll bar, so I prefer to leave the mesh inserts out, to increase my visibility, and decrease my blind spot. It isn't a huge a problem, just a personal preference for function over looks. There have actually been some posts on this in the past, where a few other members agreed that they increase rearward visibility.
