It does help. Are you sure the previous owner did not put it in the trunk or bonnet? Some people even put them behind the seats. Also you may want to check the inside storage compartment. No need to have the dealership install it. It's doesn't require installation, because it is meant to be removed. It just snaps into place. Are you also missing the roll bar windscreens inside the seat's head rest? You may want those to. But I prefer not to use them. They tend to make a whistling noise at high speeds. E-bay is you best place to find good prices. They even sell tinted ones(plastic wind deflector) on e-bay now.

The windscreen does make a difference, but I cannt seem to get myself to use it much. To me, its like driving with the top down and the windows up. I do keep the rollbar inserts in all the time, but the windscreen stays in the trunk.

My sentiments mirror edevlin's. The wind deflector does help, but I don't like using it. The only time it gets put on is if the wife is in the car and we are on the expressway. Otherwise it stays in the trunk.

I leave the screens in all the time, I'd added soft velcro padding all around them where they make contact with the rollbars to keep them from making noise, I've also added some padding on top of the notch on the rollbar for the center screen to increase the pressure on the latches to reduce noise as well.... Nothing more annoying than rattles in the interior.

If you need the mounting hardware it is pretty easy DIY. You can buy the windscreen on eBay for about $100, on average.
I only use when the top is down, because with the top up it blocks the space above the truck, but is makes a very noticeable difference in wind noise. The only thing that isn't worth it are the black mesh inserts. They block your vision and don't reduce any noise.

The wind deflector helps if you want to go top down on cool days. Windows up deflector in, really keeps the heat in better. It is a must have for the ladies. Nothing puts a woman in a foul mood faster than showing up at a party with a hurricane Katrina hairstyle. On a warm day with just me in the car I take the deflector out and put it in the seat pocket. I like the wind in my hair.

How do the mesh inserts block your view? Unless you're 4ft tall and have the seats all the way forward the seat headrests fill 95% of the space within the roll bar. Personally I think the car looks better with them fitted, even if they don't actually do much to stop wind (I haven't driven without them so I can't confirm their non-effect). I'm not having a go here, so don't get me wrong. At 5' 9" I drive with both seats fully rearward so I have no experience of the mesh inserts blocking the view.
