New Boxster Owner Needs Advice!

Hi Everyone!

I just bought a 99 with 44K & I am in love!

It is my 14th Porsche--I have an 89 930 (Garage Queen) and a 73 914 2.0L with 48K miles.

Few questions: It needs a new rear window--the condition of the rest of the top is OK--but just OK. I am considering a new aftermarket top with glass rear window--any of the AM tops any good, or might this not be a good idea?

The car is pretty heavily optioned, including 981 & 982 (full leather & supple leather). What did those options cost?

It does have 3 option codes that I can't find on any list: 232, 502, 584. Anybody ID these?

Many thanks!

Tom

Congrats & welcome.

No worries on the options codes, I got 'em memorized, here you go:

232 - 17" wheels
502 Valmet Production - Uusikaupunki in Finland
584 Storage Box above Engine

Post some pics and tell us more about your other rides. I'll let someone else comment on the aftermarket tops - mine's original...

It is quite possible to have the plastic rear window replaced with new plastic. Boat canvas places sometimes do it. Ask at Porsche dealers where they send their cars.

It is also possible to remove and replace the top yourself including with one with a glass window.

Some reading just to see what is involved is here . Be sure and read all three web pages on the subject.

Being a new owner, you also might want to poke around on the site to see the other resources there. It's worth a bookmark as it has at least 30 of the most common questions answered or issues discussed with writeups based on the collective wisdom culled from reading far to many Boxster forum postings.

If you replace the top with one with a glass window, the car will look about 10 years newer...and will continue to look like that if you care for it.
You'll spend allot more trying to achieve the same effect with re-painting.

Thanks Everyone!

The color of the 930 interior is Burgundy.

Send a message via AIM to Bambino Don
I just read a huge article all about the 914-16 as i didnt know alot about them, and due to them being both vw/porsche joint venture, the cost of them are about to really rise. I have only seen them in lime green, the white is hOT!!!!!

That 930 would be everyones dream Garage version- did you do the interior work or was that in the car when you bought it.

Thanks James--914 is going up!

Thanks, James--

In the last Excellence the market report shows my 73 914 2.0L at within $3-$5,000 to 97-99 Boxster!

This is a reflection of the relative rareness of nice 914's (were rust buckets) & the many friends, autocross records etc. that car has. Obviously related to the Boxster in concept. It is a fun car!

But what the values also show, is what a downright bargain a 97-99 Boxster is.
I had a 99 996 & that car is worth AT LEAST $10,000 more than an equivalent
99 Boxster. Is it $10,000 more car? Heck no.

I did the interior of the 930--Leather Recaros bought on E-Bay & dyed & covered the backs with matching german carpet. Das Sport Bar & aluminum kit from the UK, etc. Car also has period engine mods, etc. I do love my 930, especially when it shoots a big gout of flame out the BB pipe!
