Got a biased ticket

So I was driving down the highway, my V1 goes off, I slow down 5 mph to 65, I see a cop ahead do a U-turn and is now going my direction. He is ahead of me by 3 cars. I stay steady at 65. He slows down and I eventually pass him. Now here is the tricky part... I was ahead of him and we were both in the right lane and we pass a no passing sign, he gets over in the left lane and gets where if I cut straight over I would nick his front bumper. There was construction ahead so my lane would cut off, so I sped up in fifth another couple miles an hour and got over. he pulls me over at the end of the zone and says he pulled me over for my window tint and my license plate frame. During the time he is complimenting my car and asking me about it ect... after he writes me a citation for window tint (90 bucks) he says and im loosly quoting and infering --you shouldnt have been driving a nice car because it caught my attention, and when you passed me i figured id pull you over, you shouldnt have speeded up, i should have hit my brakes and ducked behind him (i was about to hit cones), dont drive a nice car--

My argument is simple, if i hit my brakes that would let him pass me in a no pass zone. I was well ahead of him at the no pass zone sign, he was gaining on me till said situation, he was in the left lane since he knew there was construction ahead so he knew i would have to get over. so wtf. i was put in a bad situation since i couldnt see the merge over cones and sign till after this hill. From my experience i can say that trooper was a dick. That po-dunk town just wanted money and they knew I had some.

His main argument for pulling me over was I made myself obvious by passing him. I dont think that speeding up 3 mph to avoid hitting cones and being able to change lanes is bad driving, especially in a no passing zone in which I was ahead of the cop the whole time.

Just my wtf of the moment. Seems like everything is out to get me since my cheating gf broke my heart. the only thing that makes me happy anymore is driving my car, and i cant even drive it sensibly (imo) without being harassed/profiled.

djomlas 11-10-2007 09:30 PM

well you did have 2 illegal things on your car, too dark of windows and license plae was covered.

but yeah that was a bad situation man

blinkwatt 11-10-2007 10:41 PM

Dude try not to fret it,you'll be alright.

Your car is loud and nice, people will notice it whether you like it or not. If the guy wanted to be a complete d1ck he could have given you a ticket for speeding(and possibly speeding in a construction zone). Looks like the stuff you were written for are minor and can be taken care of quickly. No biggie.

*As for the girl thing, dude your young & in college.....I don't know what else you could ask for. You will have plenty of chances to meet new chicks. If she was cheating on you it's better you find out sooner than later.

If I understand it, you received a ticket for windows that were legally speaking too dark?

Is that true?

If so, what is the issue?

:)

PS- Do what you can to get over the GF. It is good you found out about her before she became your wife! That would have really stung.

Good luck and be careful out there.

:)

funster 11-11-2007 06:03 AM

Sorry to hear about your ticket, seems like the timing could have been better personally. As for the girlfriend thing, that hurts, but when one door closes another will open. You'll have better days ahead.

Mantis 11-11-2007 06:31 AM

Hey boggtown -

I feel for you dude, but you can turn these recent events into some money...think about it; there is a country song in there somewhere

TimAustinW 11-11-2007 07:03 AM

And somewhere down the road you might run into a cop who lets you off because he likes your car ;)

Don't sweat the girl. The cheating girlfriend thing happened to me too in college and it's the best thing that could have happened in that relationship. Two months later I met my future wife and we've been happily married for thirteen years now. I know it stings now but trust me you'll get over it. Besides you have a sweet car. Sweet car = more dating opportunities :)

@ Mantis...thats really funny :D

Hey, Bogg...c'mon...wake up dude...like what everyone said, it's better that you found out now...

Nice Car + Young Owner + Small town = More Hot Chicks to come

rick3000 11-11-2007 07:47 AM

That sucks!
Are your windows really tinted to dark, did he test the tint %?
And what about the plate? Is that illegal to in your area, I would pay the ticket or debate the tinted window part, then complain about the officer, they shouldn't pull you over just because there jealous of your car.

Grizzly 11-11-2007 08:27 AM

A good rule of thumb...NEVER pass a marked cruiser. It's a respect thing. Even in a stealth car, I never pass a marked car.

The guy made some unfortunate comments, but your windows are tinted and your plate frame is illegal, so he's pretty much got you.

As for the girlfriend thing...it seems like the worst thing in the world now, but in ther not too distant future, you won't even remember her name. Trust me.

boggtown 11-11-2007 09:32 AM

Agreed, im not debating that I had illegal stuff (he pulled out a tint checking meter he slid over the glass) and my license plate frame is the same one as in all the pictures and has been on my cars for 3 years now. My only gripe is that I got pulled over in the first place. There were much more important things around than my windows (speeders, no plates, the list goes on). I looked at the violation sheet I got with an envelope to mail my money, and some of that stuff is ridiculous. 10 dollar fine for no seatbelt, 80 bucks for the license plate, 90 for the tint (i should just go get 5% now, in for a penny, in for a pound), and other odd amounts. I've only been pulled over 3 times not including this time and never had any comments on any of that stuff and never got a ticket, just a warning for going 10 over, no front plate, and illegal neons (on my BMW). So I consider myself a safe and proper driver (thats being pulled over once a year basically). Just bad timing to get near a bored cop with half an hour to kill (ya, it took about that long).

tboyer 11-11-2007 10:41 AM

I see you're from Kansas City, Missouri, I'm flying in there tomorrow to pick up my 01 S, staying with friends in Prairie Village 'til Tuesday, then a 1000 miles back to Maryland. Anyone know of any common speed traps on 70 East?

Tickets and girlfriends come and go, like others have said, better to know now before marriage, kids, mortgages. KC will beat Denver today, so, that's a good thing. Now go out and drive your car!

You play, you pay.

Sorry, that is the way it is.

blinkwatt 11-11-2007 11:04 AM

Hey Bogg,

Since you got a ticket for the stuff does your State laws require you to go to a place to ensure you have it removed or do you just pay the fine and call it a day?

(tboyer check your PMs)

boggtown 11-11-2007 11:21 AM

Just pay the fine and call it a day. As far as speed traps on 70... just watch for motorcycle cops sneaking around near KC. Other than that most cops should be avoidable.

blkboxster 11-11-2007 12:26 PM

Dude that sucks
i sometimes hate cops :troll:

I hate cops too, they are never around when you need them. Although I've meet 2 decent ones out of many my whole life so they are not all that bad.

They may not always have time for you because they're busy managing the lives and raising the children of other imbeciles.

xxxalexxxx 11-11-2007 08:31 PM

i feel u dude, i just got pulled over last week on a highway for going 15 over the speed limit (the limit is 55) i think its such bull****************-waste of my time and money...cops have nothing better to do then pull people over for "tints" and speeding 5 over...who actually goes 55 on an expressway?

as for the girl, man forget her- ull find someone who'll be good to u and sometimes its actually nice to be single and have a life of your own...i just broke up with my girlfriend and i feel better then ever. :-)

nola911 11-11-2007 08:57 PM

+1 on the fuzz. When I go in to new orleans, the murder capital of the US, they have motorcyle cops hiding behind the bridge on I-10 with a radar gun at 6:00 A.M. Meanwhile the same day a buddy I work with gets his truck broken into and the cop says "It's not worth calliing us over this"

Do you really think their priorities are straight? 99% of our murders are not attempted to be solved, but if you go 80 in a 70, you will be dragged out your car in rush hour traffic to risk your life while a citation is written. Obviously, cops are not all this way, it just rubs me the wrong way.

As for the girl, enjoy being single. It's more fun. The settle down/marriage/kids come quick and before you know it, you will be wondering what it was like to be able to "experiment" with young chicas.

Kirk 11-11-2007 09:21 PM

Boggtown, I feel for ya man. That's why I try to keep as legal as possible with my car. I recently bought a license plate cover, but then took it back to the store when I looked up the code and found out it was illegal (in California). I figure why give a cop an excuse to pull you over for something small and stupid like that?

As for your specific situation, well I had something similar happen to me. I was driving in heavy traffic for several miles with a cop. No problem. He was right along side of me in the left most of three lanes (I was in the middle), when he decided he had to get off at the next exit (poor planning). When I saw him signal I was going 5 mph under the limit, so I sped up a little to give him a spot to move in. Next thing I knew - flashing lights and a BS ticket for speeding. Took it to court and the cop lied, lied, lied, and I ended up paying more!

Lesson learned. Now I ALWAYS try to hang back and keep cops well in front of me in traffic. Don't do anything to piss them off. Many are decent guys/gals, while some have a real chip on their shoulder. I think you made the same mistake as me in not falling back and just letting him go first.

Grizzly 11-11-2007 09:26 PM

Max,

1) Motorcycle traffic cops are not homicide detectives. Motorcycle traffic cops write traffic tickets. Homicide detectives work homicides. Two completely different jobs.

2) Cops do not determine staffing levels; politicians do. Governors and Mayors make stupid speeches and campaign promises and then hand them down to Police Chiefs to accomplish. Police Chiefs declare those promises priorities and hand those priorities down through the ranks. Colonels, Majors, Captains, etc divide up their resources and determine their staffing levels to best accomplish the politicians' empty promises. In the end, the poor cop goes where he is assigned to go and accomplishes the task he has been directed to accomplish. It helps if the politician who started the whole chain of events is not a friggin' wacko, which doesn't seem to be the case in your state.

From a recent news article regarding New Orleans' homicide rate...

"Incredibly, the killing fields of New Orleans do not appear to rank high as a concern among state and local officials. The mayor, Ray Nagin, has been silent in the face of the sort of mass killing that occurred and often dismissive of it. This summer, he told a group of reporters that the murder rate "keeps the New Orleans brand out there."

You see, New Orleans' Mayor thinks the murder rate is a friggin' tourist attraction. It's easy to blame the cop, because he's most visible, but the cop's not the problem. The people who dictate the priorities and the idiots who vote for them. They're the problem. I don't know any real cops who wouldn't rather be chasing killers than speeders. Do you remember how Timothy McVeigh was caught? He was caught by an alert Traffic Officer who pulled him over for a license plate violation.

boggtown 11-11-2007 10:04 PM

I da no though, these 2 troopers were laughing and talking in the cruiser while i waited. they seemed sadistic. i agree that cops are good. but this particular cop was bored and pissy.

Brucelee 11-12-2007 06:09 AM

Irrespective, the point of all this is that the guy got a ticket for a violation that he deserved. The rest is just whinning about how he got picked on. If you think there should not be tint laws, call your local poliiticiian and get a lesson how responsive THEY are to your needs. :D

If the guy got a ticket for a violation that he didn't do, he would have a legitimate beef.

Face it guys, he deserved the ticket.

Lets let the cops do their job. Believe me, you wouldn't want to have to deal with all you whinners on a daily basis.

:D

Perfectlap 11-12-2007 07:54 AM

I think traffic cops in general are enforcing a sham. If the law makers were serious about controlling speed they'd install speed sensing cameras like they have in Austria. No one speeds, less accidents and no need to pay a cop to ride around randomly poping "speeders". But this America and I firmly believe that the highway cops are going to go after the cars with drivers who 1-have the means to pay and 2-will in fact pay up at some point.
20 cars will travel 10 miles over the limit but they will pinch the guy in the German car and let the 15 Minivans, Toyotas and Corollas slide.

And every cop that has ever pulled me over has ALWAYS had an attitude about
my "expensive" car and seemed annoyed that a young person was driving it.
One cop not realizing that I was on DOT R-Comps said (in a know it all tone) "your tires are worn badly, I could easily impound your car but I'm going to do you a favor and give you these other tickets instead, if you can afford to buy a nice car then you can afford new tires for it". I wasn't about to explain to him that my "worn out tires" had better grip than 99% of the cars he'd pulled over that day, I just shut my mouth happy I escaped points and said yes sir, absolutely sir, will do sir. Most highway cops hate being argued with.
Anyhoo the way we enforce the speed laws is malarkey. If they were truly interested in making the roads safer and not just raising revenue, in addition to the speed cameras, they would pull people over for driving too slow in the passing lane. Congestion in this lane leads to stacking up of the other lanes, which in turn leads to the biggest problem: dangerous weaving. A slow passing lane also creates danger when drivers start doing parallels three or four abreast. Then you've got all the cars behind hitting their brakes at 70mph. That's how you get chain reaction accidents. The way to avoid this is for the police to ensure that the passing lane "pressure valve" is always open and going faster than the other lanes.

Topless 11-12-2007 11:07 AM

Griz is right. Traffic cops just go where they are told and it is a powerless, thankless and dangerous job. I am glad they are out there even though it often seems like they have little impact.

If you pass a cruiser it is a sign of disrespect. If you don't give him an obvious reason to pull you over (no front plate, tinted windows) he will look for a reason. Never never pass a cop.

cfos 11-12-2007 12:03 PM

+1 on what Griz and Bruce wrote. I've yet to be pulled over for simply driving a Porsche. Then again, I don't mod my car illegally nor do I recklessly speed -- things obviously present amongst other P-car drivers.

What I do find quite funny is that many people on this forum get pissed about cops or others talking about "them" and "Porsches" whilst great humor is derived from making fun of "ricers" or people with more econmical cars or cars modded to their taste. Am I the only one that notices the hypocracy? Viva el Caste system!!! Seriously, when you guys go to a casino, do you sit there and whine when you gamble and lose and the casino won't give you your money back? Either give the cops a break or write legislation to back your opinions on the legality of tinted windows and other violations like license plates on front and back and driving +10 over the speed limit. Otherwise, if you are too busy and important and shug at the opportunity to perform a civic responsibility to enlighten the public with your vastly superior knowledge as to what should and shouldn't be legal, then shut the "f" up because whining isn't very endearing.

Grizz, here in Texas we just call our buddy and ask him to bring over the extra ammo we've been storing at his place.

Our law enforcement officials are so busy not deporting illegal aliens and not executing drug dealers that they don't even show up when your house is robbed unless you say the magic words, "Robbery IN PROGRESS."

BTW, a good lawyer will get you off of all those charges. It's worth trying to get off of them just to rub the cops nose in it.

Yeah! That'll teach him to do his job! Bet that cop will never make a plain view violation stop again! Not after you hire a lawyer to drop that bombshell on him! Maybe you could get OJ's Dream Team!

Imagine the devistation he'll feel when he loses the illegal tint case that he's been waiting his whole career for! I'll call AA now and tell them to expect him.

Brucelee 11-12-2007 06:04 PM

Ok. I am going to shut this down.

Why?

Well, we have had numerous posts of this sort here where some guy gets a ticket and admits that yes, he was guily of that violation. But, to his defense, the cop had an attitude and blah blah blah.

This guy was imaginative. He tossed in a cheating girlfriend. Not bad, first time for this line I think,

Then both sides take up the cause, citing examples of how cops are this or that.

ENOUGH!

If you get cited for something you did, BE A MAN and just shut up and PAY THE TICKET.

That will make you better than 80 percent of rest of America. You should be proud of yourself, doing the right thing instead of whinning about how life did you wrong.

Stop looking for some excuse or sympathy, simple do what is right and move on.

Life is WAY to short for these petty tirades.

To Griizz,

Man, thanks for taking care of the rest of us fools. Bejng a cop must suck sometimes.
