I say go for it!
I have talked to a few people who have fixed there tops this way, and it seems to be just fine. Just think of the money ($400+) you will save. You can always take the entire top off, if you want to as well.

Rear window stitching. Do I need glue too?

about 4" of stitching has broken! Nice new air vent.

I am OK with getting UV thread to re-stitch,

but how about water-tighting? Do I need to glue before stitching?

Or apply something after the re-stitch done?

thanks

(and hoping it doesnt rain)

I highly recommend the glass window top from Autotopsdirect.com

They offer the same product as GAHH for way less, and I installed it myself in a weekend with the instructions they supplied. In terms of aesthetics, I think the car looks much better than the plastic top. In terms of visibility, you lose a bit but not a ton, and the clarity is off course much better. Access to the engine is a little tougher but manageable.
