That sounds like a good idea to me. I looked into a number of options when my plastic window cracked. I decided there was still life in the canvas, so I had a plastic window sewed in. As I understand it, it is pretty fussy to take the top off and put it back on correctly without breaking some of the parts involved. I forget, but it was over 600.00 to have a new plastic window put in and almost all of that was labor. Good luck and let us know what you decide to do.
