Interesting trip to Service

I needed to get a key programmed so I brought my car in to have it done. When I got there I also mentioned that I've been hearing lots of rattling under acceleration. Turned out both catalytic converters were bad! At 35,000 miles. Under warranty though, so thats good. Has anyone else heard of this problem?

They also found a rat's nest in the pollen filter! I think I'll be taking care of that myself though, I just have to find a replacement pollen filter. Maybe thats something for others to check if they've never looked there.

Funny thing though is that I just had a post purchase inspection done in Charleston 3 weeks ago and they didn't find any of this! I just moved to the DC area so today's trip was to Porsche of Arlington and they found out about the rats nest, the catalytic converters, the dirty brake fluid, and that the rear tires needed to be replaced. And all that after just scheduling a key programming. They were very polite and helpful also. Even noticed my clear side markers! But what the heck was up with the last dealership and that "inspection"!

Anyway, I just thought this info might be helpful to some...

Was the last shop you took it to for inspection P-Car specialist?

Welcome to DC. Where are you, 8th & I? Pentagon? What?

Porsche of Arlington has a much better reputation than HBL. On the Maryland side, Tischer has been O.K. by me.

Yes, the last inspection was done at the Porsche dealership in Charleston. It had an incredibly nice waiting room though! Porsche of Arlington barely has a waiting room but the service was great. I guess its a trade-off. I'll take the service over the leather couches and lattes.

Grizzly, what is HBL? And I am at MCB Quantico right now. It will be a nice break from deployments for a while...

HBL is a Porsche/Mercedes/etc, etc, etc, dealer in Tysons Corner Va. They have a pretty spotty reputation for service.

Arlington is a pretty good ride from Quantico. I guess that's your closest dealership though, huh?

Glad you're home safe. A few of our forum members are currently over in the sandbox.

Well thats good to know, because I almost went to the Tyson's Corner Porsche.
Arlington Porsche is only about 25 minutes away. Much better than my last duty station where the closest one was 3 hours away!

Pat - now that you've got your boxster, check out the local PCA region (www.pcapotomac.org) and try to come out to some events, time permitting!

Great, thanks, I definitely will.

Also, I found out that both cats did not go bad, it was the heat shields which cannot be replaced separately. I remember hearing other people having that problem though. So both $1200 cats have to be replaced. It seems like its a build defect that should have been figured out on the seventh model year.

Check out www.dorkiphus.net for local content, mainly 911 stuff but always helpful as there are several great local Indie shops.
