radar detector damages windshield?

Just bought an Escort Passport. The manual says some cars, "including some Porsches", have a coated windshield which can be permanently scarred by the suction cup mounts of the radar detector. Consult your dealer...blah blah blah.

What's the scoop on this pertaining to the Boxster?

Now that is a new one! Good thing I took some velcro and stuck it to my dash. (I'm probably doing damage to that, right?)

A few things - I like putting on the dash instead of the windshield. It is less obvious to any observer. It is also more secure and will not fall down. Suction cups will dry out and break eventually and it is tricky to find new ones that fit the passports windshield mount.

One smart soul in the forum (and I've forgotten which one) suggested use of a non-slip gel pad from Officemax. I got one for my passport and put it on the left side of the steering wheel up against the windshield. It doesn't leave suction cup marks on the windshield (though those cleaned off without problem), I think it's less visible to the nice fellow operating his radar gun, and it's easy to take down quickly if I should get pulled over.

Before installing my current system, I ran with an Escort 8500XP stuck to the windshield for about a year. I have been using my Garmin stuck to the windshield quite often since I bought the car.

Absolutely no problems to date in my car.
