Don't be surprised if the 2009 Boxster with the LED's and Direct Fuel Injection (DFI) is introduced a bit early (in the Spring or mid-Summer). I have purchased 3 Porsches from Rector Porsche in Burlingame, and they would not take my order for a 2008 Boxster S, as they do not have an allocation for one. They have an orange Limited Edition "S" coming and that's it. They suggested that Porsche allows them more of an allocation for the Caymans. So my guess would be 2008 will be a short model year for the Boxster, which in my opinion is a shame, as I really like the 2005 to 2008 styling, and usually do not want to be the first one out with the new technology until it is perfected a bit. DFI is a great fuel delivery system. For instance the 6-cylinder Cayenne now puts out 290 with DFI, as compared to the original Cayenne 6 cylinder putting out only 250 horsepower, but displacement also increased from 3.2 litres to 3.6 liters. If displacement stays the same, the estimates of 270 horsepower on the base Boxster is plausible, and we may see 320 horsepower on the Boxster S, especially if engine displacement is increased as well. Of course, the new Boxster will be introduced at the Frankfurt Show on Sept. 13th, and I am sure we will have more answers at that time.
