987 Photos from European website

I'm not 100% sure if these are real... probably not... but who knows... maybe.

I found them on www.auto-motor-und-sport.de. The short article that went with the photos said something like this (rough translation).

"Already planned to be shown at the Paris salon (auto show) in September, 2004 Porsche introduces the new edition of the Boxster. The sales should start in December. Changes: the floodlights are arranged oval and more level, the front hood runs up more around, and the front apron accommodates long fog lamps. In the interior the cockpit has higher qaulity materials and more comfortable seats. Base model will have a 2.7-liter engine and 248 HP. The Boxster S should have 280 HP. Porsche will offer in addition to the Roadster, a coupe version with steady roof."

I've seen the silver one earlier and I think it is the real deal. Similar photos of the 997 did in fact become reality.

I must say, this is a flat-out gorgeous design! Of the 997 and 987, the Boxster definitely scored the Carrera GT front end. This improves on a design which was nearly perfect anyway. Very impressed.

The coupe is interesting...I wonder how the porsche community will feel about it. At least the convertible boxster was in a class of its own...but making it a coupe? Hmmm...

The backend looks alomost identical to the 986 if you ask me. They just tweeked the taillights slightly.

The front clip is better than our 986's, but the styling is almost identical overall, which is great -- the boxster is beautiful as is. Although the 997 front clip is much better than the 987 -- only wish porsche would get back to round headlights for all their models.

defenately interested to see what they will do with the interior...which is where i think the most improvements can be made (pray for better sound!!!)

Boxster's have a good sound system now but you have to pony up the $1,800 bucks for the bose system option. It sounds pretty good but could use even more lowend bass. The rear bose woofer enclosure has two tiny 5" woofers. They do crank out decent bass for 5" speakers though. If they bumped it up to two 8" woofers it would sound just right imo. I like music with alot of bass though so most people would probabbly think it sounds just right as it is.

I have the bose option. i still cannot touch the harmon kardon option of my bmw 323is. Its okay -- not as bad as some, but for a $60 car, i would expect a little better.

I hear you. It doesn't sound as good as the price would suggest but it blows the base stereo away. I have always heard that the Mark Levinson stereos that come on the lexus models sound incredible.

Anyone else think the rear quarter panel and intakes look weak? Somehow my Sonja looks more muscular in the haunches.

yeah, i think our current intakes/rear end are better. But honestly the change between the 986 and 987 is so slight that maybe its almost something that they 'had' to do. ???

The only thing I think is better is the front bumper. But since I have the Aerokit GT2 bumper I still like my 986 better.

The rear looks the same. The side intakes look weak. I haven't seen the interior but if it's anything like the 997 then it looks like azz.

On another note, I also have the Bose. I wonder if there's enough volume to rip out the 2 5" "subs" and replace it with 8" JL or something.
