Weak Alarm

I purchased my 98' Boxter 3 weeks ago and recently tested my alarm. When I activated it sounded weak and barely audible. Like a a very weak battery. Has anyone experienced anything similar. Do all 986's come equipped with infrared sensors as well? Any pointers to the effectiveness of the alarm system would also be appreciated.

Thanks!

Karst

Boxster's alarm protect the interior and interior only. It shouldn't make a sound,only the headlights + taillights should blink once or twice(armed or unarmed). If it's making a honking sound it would be do to;

-either the front or rear trunk is open

-the center console storage area is open

-the doors are open

If it's making a sound for any other reason you someone has tampered with the stereo or there is an aftermarket alarm installed.

If it's still the factory alarm the horn is located next to the battery and they can weaken over time and the db can be reduced.

Replacement Ordered

I ordered a replacement alarm horn from Sunset and installed it. The alarm horn is better but still very weak. Any thoughts? Battery? Is the horn adjustable? Can the volume be increased by the computer?
