Enjoy !!! If anyone wants to see it in person, let me know

djomlas 08-01-2007 07:46 AM

i wanna see it in person....its nice here in Chicago :)

congrats man, thats my future car, counting months here ;)

Bavarian Motorist 08-01-2007 07:49 AM

Thanks dj :D

It's such a fun car...I can take turns in it at 10-15mph faster than the Boxster and EFFORTLESSLY.

The Boxster feels like a dump truck by comparison.

It's amazing...truly amazing in every sense.

You can pick up '05s for $35k easily with maybe 15-18k miles on them. Check Lotusofgreenwich.com :D Insurance isn't that bad. My dad was quoted $500 every 6 months and me, a 19 year old with accident history, $2900 every 6 months.

I know I'm no photographer, dj, so I'll have to hire you :) Pics do not do this car justice.....

Perfectlap 08-01-2007 07:53 AM

ANY street legal car feels like a dump truck in comparison...

You should have pulled the trigger on the Exige man! If you're going to go impractical GO IMPRACTICAL!!
Congrats.

Bavarian Motorist 08-01-2007 07:55 AM

Well, from what I hear from Lotus owners, the Exige S and Elise are almost identical in acceleration after the second camshaft switches over (6200 RPM) and they really only recommend the Exige for track junkies.

Does it look bad ass? Yep. Is it much faster? Yep.

Can I afford it...?

..... :(

blue2000s 08-01-2007 07:57 AM

Nice. I like that color. I looked at them before buying the Box, but I don't fit!

Bavarian Motorist 08-01-2007 07:59 AM

Blue,

I am 6'2" 270 lbs...

If I fit...YOU FIT!! :D

You probably just couldn't get in properly ... takes a bit of practice!

It's all about proportion. I'm 6'2" as well and my legs just plain don't like the little space.

Bavarian Motorist 08-01-2007 08:07 AM

All right, fair enough. I know that I have taught my legs to like sitting closer to the pedals in vehicles because I have better pedal feel. Now everyone thinks I sit too close.

Boxtaboy 08-01-2007 08:10 AM

Looks cool. Nice color combo too. Have fun with it!

Adam 08-01-2007 08:44 AM

How does the power delivery feel compared to the 2.7L box you had?

humara 08-01-2007 08:48 AM

very nice.
i like.
1975 lbs of fun.

yellowboxster01 08-01-2007 09:38 AM

There's a yellow one of those that lives down the street from me. I pulled up next to him at a stop light the other day and he makes my Box look like a cadillac. Those are literally a GO KART! Very nice cars though, I'd love to drive one.

boxsterz 08-01-2007 09:46 AM

I considered them too, couldn't get away from the Alien eyes. I don't know if the list does it justice, but it's not much faster than a Cayman, which of course is box coupe :)

http://www.bbc.co.uk/topgear/show/powerlaps.shtml

Nice nonetheless.

Which Lotus owners? The Elise or the Exige? :D
There is no replacement for displacement!
But I would think you would want to work your way up to a power to weight distribution of 8 or 9 pounds per pony. I think the CaymanS is one pound more than the Exige.

NickCats 08-01-2007 10:13 AM

Bav,

Congratulations ! Very nice car. There was an Exige at the autocross this weekend, but I was not impressed with the numbers it put up ( more due to the driver then the car ). I asked her for a ride along, but she said she did not want any passengers for her last run ( which was fine ), but when she pulled up to the start, she did have a passenger ( denied ! )

Nick

lol....was she cute?

Bavarian Motorist 08-01-2007 10:53 AM

Elise is 190hp and 1970 lbs (approximately...with sport pack and such, which I do have)

Cayman S is 295hp and 2967 lbs (BASE WEIGHT. Most Caymans will weigh at least 50-100 lbs more)

That's an identical power to weight ratio :) It feels much faster than the 2.7l. Of course, I am still breaking it in...700 miles to go.... Can't be over 6K RPM. It doesn't have that dead spot at 2k rpm that the 2.7l has. Gearing is better too... (70mph in 6th = 3.5k RPM)

If it was about speed, I would have gotten a Corvette for the same $$$. I think we, as current and former Boxster owners, know that better than anyone.

blkboxster 08-01-2007 11:03 AM

congrats i hope you enjoy it, imo i would never drive one, idk why, but it reminds me of a remote control car,

congrats again

Topless 08-01-2007 12:49 PM

Dude! Bring it out to California. We have unlimited mountain twisties. :D

skip_168 08-01-2007 01:01 PM

uuughhh... I never liked the look of that thing...

Dr. Kill 08-01-2007 01:07 PM

Nice looking car.

Next time I am going to be out in LI, I will have to drop you a line. I would love to get a closer look at it.

Enjoy and let us know what happens after the break-in period!

Bavarian Motorist 08-01-2007 02:28 PM

Tell me about it...SoCal is where this car belongs... Not on these crappy ass, non-maintained roads. Their idea of fixing a crack is to put a hump over the entire interstate that acts like a speed bump at 70mph.

Dr.Kill, I'm in Westchester too and NYC all the time...swing on by!

porsche986spyder 08-01-2007 02:37 PM

Did you get the color matching hardtop? Or did it come with the black ones? I like that model. Thank god you did not get the big extra spoiler added. That color looks great too!

NickCats 08-01-2007 04:31 PM

Adam, she wasn't cute, but she was really tall

porsche986spyder, I disagree with you regarding the spoiler. The Exige I saw this weekend had one, and I thought it looked pretty sharp...

Something was wrong with your Boxster then.

I've been in a Elise when it was wide open,2nd cam was kicking in,hard turns and everything. While it had an edge on the Boxster by no means did it make my Box feel like a dump truck. Perhaps saying the Boxster feels mild would be a more accurate comparison.

mkgonza2 08-01-2007 05:23 PM

I am glad they built that car for performance, because it looks like an insect !

JAAY 08-01-2007 07:05 PM

Bavarian, let me know if you are out in suffolk or anywhere on the island.. I would love to check it out. My brother and I almost bought a pair of exige s's but just decided not to. BUT we never got the chance to get in one. If you do have the time let me know, I'll be there.
Thanks
J

Bavarian Motorist 08-01-2007 09:44 PM

Hey guys,

The Exige is the car that comes with the wing and the front splitter and also an engine cover. It is necessary and beneficial because it is a track oriented car.

The Elise comes like this...no wing.

JAAY: I am in Long Island right now as I usually am. I am actually heading out your way tomorrow to rack up some mileage on her...I don't mind heading out to the North Fork if you have some free time!

:)

chaudanova 08-02-2007 01:04 PM

In case you want some ideas for modding.... here is my business partner's former Elise with some Exige goodies... (just recently sold).

Bavarian Motorist 08-02-2007 03:03 PM

That looks great!

To make it exactly like an Exige, you'd need the fastback engine cover and the wing would be mounted to that instead of the rear, but that looks pretty good!!!!

I want to get black wheels :)

JAAY 08-02-2007 07:41 PM

Bavarian, I will be around all day, mostly at my office.. Shoot me an email I'll send you my number with a pm.. would be great to check it out.
Jay
