Quote for extended warranty

I have an '04 Boxster witth 29,000 miles and a factory warranty that expires in September. A significant issue is that the previous owner had the engine replaced at about 10K under warranty. I just had a water pump go out, so I'm thinking about an extended warranty.

I contacted Smart Auto, which apparently brokers for warranty companies and they gave me a quote of $3,500 for four years, $100 deductable, and it includes;

tire damage (not wear)
roadside assistance
seals and gaskets
up to $110 per hour labor costs
up to 100K miles
rental/towing
12 month 0% financing

I believe the base company is EAP. Does anyone have experience with this company? Is this a fair deal, or am I just being screwed by EAP AND Porsche?

I got my warranty from smartautowarranty and I have been very happy with it. I have a similar warranty except my warranty is offered by API and it has a $100 deductible for 3 years and 36000 miles. I also did the 0% interest finance plan for 12 months and had the wear and tear as well as the seals and gaskets covered.

I take my car to Champion Porsche in Pompano Beach and I have not had a problem with the warranty. Champion charges $125 an hour and never been an issue. To date I have had the Mass airflow sensor replaced, the right rear wheel bearing replaced and there was one other item that needed to be replaced that was also covered.

Mass Air Flow is roughly a $750 job
Right Wheel Bearing is roughly a $500 job

I got both fixed no problem and the rental was covered too. They do have other warranty programs to choose from and the guy that I dealt with was extremely helpful in educating me about my options and allowing me to choose the coverage that I liked best.

Look into CarMax, I do not know if they warrant cars that aren't sold from them but they gave my '99 a 3 years / 36k Mile warranty for $1100. They have already spent $3k+ in repairs.

I got my extended warranty thru GE (General Electric) I think its a little more expensive but theyre a billion dollar company and you dont have to worry about a fly by nite company going out of business.

Your warranty doesn't sound too out of the ordinary. Mine was through Warranty America & it's full coverage with wear & tear but not seals & gaskets. It was $2275 & covers 60 months or 80,000 additional miles. I have had a few repairs & they only go up to $100/hr & seem to haggle hard with dealerships on the hours. There have been no problems with taking it to a Porsche specialist, though. One good warranty that seems to come highly recommended from the local Porsche Dealerships is Easy Care (probably because they all seem to sell it!) I don't think you can purchase it on your own though, because a dealership has to inspect it first & their site routes you to contact your local dealership for more information.

...without seal and gasket coverage how would that be worth the amount you paid...thinking specifically Rear Main...not flaming at all...just wondering if they would cover that.

It's covered - I spoke with the underwriter about the contract. The seals & gaskets clause relates to "other seals." He said that the only Porsche's they cover are Boxster's & 911's and they're well aware of RMS leaks. As long as you have the bumper to bumper, you're set.
