Umbrella holder and Porsche Umbrella....?

So my question is does anyone actually use the little notched out space on the passenger side seat to store an umbrella? And does any other type of umbrella fit into the small area other than a Porsche colapsable umbrella? I currently keep one in my rear trunk, but was considering buying a Porsche one so it would fit nicely into that little area until I saw the price of one. $75.00 and up. Does anyone else use this ubrella holder and is there another brand of umbrella that fits snugly into this small space?

Yes, I actually do keep an umbrella in the umbrella holder although until now, I had no idea that is what it was for.

I don't know what kind of umbrella I have - some very small one I picked up in Tokyo.

Yep, OEM Porsche Umbrella

It's a gimmick. Never used it. Price is outrageous.

I picked up a small umbrella for $6 at some discount store a while ago, and it works fine in that little pocket. It doesn't fill it out completely, but it fits in there and doesn't slide around.

Ok...and once again, I gotta go out to the car and "look" for the umbrella holder i did not know I had! It took me a year to figure out I had fog lights.

If you look at my last picture in my signature you can see it. It's the little pocket with the rubber liner in it that is just above my 986 door sill. If you don't have the removeable rubber insert, it may have gotten sucked up at your local vacume/car wash. There is nothing holding it down.

I considered the porsche umbrella, the cheapest I found was $58 + shipping. For an umbrella I will probably never use that was ridiculously high. I went to Ross and got a black collapsable one for $10. If fits great, no problems, looks good, it just doesn't fill up the entire space.

A friend of mine couldn't figure out how to turn his air conditioning off. The "snowflake" icon just didn't register. I bought my Boxster after he bought his, so I already knew the secret code.

When I was in high school a friend of mine had a 912 that he had restored. (He spent his nights and weekends sanding off the rust.) If I recall correctly, the controls on the car were plain black knobs with few labels. When people would comment about the cryptic controls he would always say, "If you don't know how to operate it, you shouldn't be in it."

By the way, that is the only 911 or 912 in which I rode in the back "seat".

There is a 912 sitting at the shop where I get the BMW serviced. Owner can't decide what to do with it. Needs some work but when I saw it I thought that would look good restored and on the road.

I have two 912s(projects). They're cool little cars. Not as fast as the 911, but handle better 'cause they don't have that huge motor hanging out over their ass.

Speaking from experience.... It happened with my shop vac earlier this week.

I keep air gauge, little detailing brushes, and the rubber stick to get wax out from between the body panels in there.

I did get one. From Suncoast, as I recall.

Thought of it this way...

It was about the price of one tank of gas -- sad though that may be.

But it looks right.

Hopefully I will not use it as I probably won't drive the car in the rain,
at least not intentionally. And, yes, it is somewhat a garage queen,
but with 30% of the drivers around here uninsured and with no
idea how to drive (probably don't have driving school down in
Mexico -- shh! I didn't say that!), I would prefer to take wet pavement
chances in the Suburban.

But let's not get me started on all that -- I'll start sounding like Randall!

All the best,

- Mark
