silver roll bars?

hey, i have black roll bars and would like silver ones, can i paint them or would i have to buy a new roll bar?

I've seen at least two examples of DIY painted rollbars, one was done with extensive masking of the bars still in the car. The other was done after removing the rollbars. Neither looked easy, but both certainly possible. Trent Carter painted his and documented the process, but his site is no longer up and the Wayback Machine archives don't contain those pictures.

my local porsche specialty shop (not dealer) said they would paint my rollbars for$200. Not sure if they planned to remove them for painting or not.
