so after my mishap with the spears on the back of the car, im having them painted on this time.
i am deciding on color for them.
these are the choices, and please add any other color that you think they might look good in:
RED
GRAY
SILVER
BLACK
ORANGE
(with orange tail lights and headlights and possibly orange calipers...idea that just came to me)

Orange and Blue are opposites on the color wheel, so orange spears would contrast really well. Since your car is teal maybe a variation of blue would be better. And with the lights and calipers it would look really good.

Silver, but only Red if your outer lip on your rims is still Red. Can't tell from that picture because the car is moving. Are they stil Red or did you remove it?

Why not just keep the decal thing going? If you have them permanently painted on, won't that possibly make things tough for you one day should you want to sell the car, and the buyer doesn't happen to dig the stripe thing? Everything else you did with the car is pretty much reversible or easily swapped , but this wouldn't be, no? Just a thought.

Oh, but if you're gonna do it, go with the silver. I think it's more subtle than the other options, and blends better with the metallic torquiose.

Exactly! That's why I too used decal meterial. Mine has been on for over a year now and no problems. You have to used a good glossy metalic type of meterial for it to last and not come off. None of that cheap stuff!

well....the decal took out a chunk of my paint, so even when i put a new decal on there you can see the clearcoat peeling trough, a bad outline, so decal or not it looks bad, and its really bothering me.

and when i decide to sell the car...if that guy doesnt like it he can leave, and someone else that does like it will buy it, so i really dont care about that, and yes the red stripe is still on the wheels, when you sell the car the pictures are there, so if you dont like it you dont buy it, simple as that, but yeay it wouldnt be reversible, other than putting a different colored decal over the painted one i guess, so thats why im asking which would look the best on it, as its premanent.

i was thinking of gray/silver if i go with smoked tail lights....and orange if i go amber tail lights, and red if i stay with 550 edition ones.

Wow, I can't believe the decal took a chunk of paint off! Never heard that happening before. Sounds like a good reason to paint the entire car a different color! Just kidding. Not realy.

if and when my car gets repainted anytime, it will be some shade of orange...or something else uncommon.

I don't know that I'd be so cavalier about resale... I wouldn't underestimate the amount of potential buyers this could possbily eliminate.

Even moderately customized cars don't sell for what the seller usually feels they're worth. In fact, the price point on a customized vehicle will probably have to be lower than the same car in stock condition. (Of course that can depend of the types of mods.)

Additionally, I'm sure your mindset is different right now because you may not have intentions of selling the car anytime soon. When you are motivated to sell, I'd be willing to bet your mindset will be different. Know what I'm sayin'?

Agreed. Sure, you can tell anyone to take a hike if they don't like the stripes, but in reality, when it comes time to sell, it will pose more of a problem than a help...especially if you want to offload it fast. How many people in all the Boxster community boards do you know have stripes or want to put stripes on their car? Of all the boards I've visited, I'd say maybe 3, DJ included.

In fact, I'm all for DJ having stripes or polkadots, for that matter, if that's what he's into cause that's HIS car, but at least do something that is reversible if the new buyer decides that is not for him/her. Just makes simple sense. People are bringing up these issues for your potential benefit.

Besides, if it's the damaged clear coat that is the real issue that is bothering you, then why not just have the shop redo the clearcoat instead of doing the paint job?

well....
1. i really want the stripes
2. i dont want the peeling clear coat
3. stripes will cost me less than $100
4. clearing the whole panel will cost me .... more than 100
5. i still want the stripes.
6. i got the car cheap as all hell considering the year and miles, so im not worried about resale price
6. if you havent noticed i like to have something different, hence the actual color of the car, black wheels with red stripe, and spears on the back
7. if clearcoat didnt peel off and didnt look bad, i would have the stripes on thereright now eaither way

Well then, might I suggest black? I think it will work with the rims.
Silver looked good, but I don't know how it will look with your darker rims.
Orange doesn't seem to work, unless you de-de-ambered.
No to red because it would have to match your tail lights and rims perfectly too look good. I think that'd be difficult and too many shades of red will look busy.
Gray seems like an additional color, and you don't want more colors on your car, black, silver, red, + gray... too much.

Black would get my vote, but photoshop that action Mladen! And when you do, use a medium shot, not too close, not too zoomed out (basically get the wheels in the shot).

although i think that black would go with the wheels, i dotn want them to be seperated from the tails, so i think i may go with red.
ill just tell the shop to match the red to the tail lights.
i want to do them this way, not the slim ones.
over from ppbb
